It is still extremely early, perhaps even premature, to be forecasting Class of 2021 prospects, especially since the vast majority of the freshmen in the state haven’t even played a varsity high school game. Then again, the pace of recruiting is at an all-time high, evidenced by the two top prospects on this list making their verbal pledge to LSU in the past few weeks.

With that said, we have released our initial 2021 rankings, a modest list of 25 prospects that have stood out among their peers. Certainly, this list will change and evolve in time, as we know many players will grow, develop and mature.

+ SS/RHP Connor Simon (St. Paul’s HS, LA) is atop the first release of the 2021 rankings. A Louisiana State recruit, Simon created recruiting buzz last spring, as he saw time on the mound in a varsity playoff series for St. Paul’s HS. He also was a standout in the 2016 Underclass Showcase, as a seventh grader, showing advanced actions and feel for infield play.

+ Checking in at No. 2 on the list is another recent Louisiana State commit, OF Josh Stevenson (St. Thomas More HS, LA). Stevenson stood out this summer playing with the Louisiana Knights, showing high-level defensive ability in the outfield with tracking speed and instincts. A left-handed hitter, he showed a simple, direct path with bat speed and the ability to consistently place the barrel on the baseball this past summer. The young Stevenson has ties to the LSU program, as his older brother Andrew, currently with the Washington Nationals, helped the Tigers reach the 2013 and 2015 College World Series, and then ultimately was selected in the second round of the 2015 draft.
