Tuesday in south Louisiana saw a pair of highly competitive matchups against district foes. At 4:00 PM, Prep Baseball Report Louisiana was on-hand at Hahnville high school, as the Destrehan Wildcats defeated the Tigers by a score of 6 to 3.

Prep Baseball Report then made the quick trip over to Mike Miley Stadium and saw John Curtis HS defeat Jesuit HS by a score of 1 to 0.

Both games were well played by the four clubs, and there was a lot of energy in both stadiums. Let’s dive into a few takeaways from the day.

+ 2017 LHP, Austin Perrin, got the nod for Hahnville and was solid in his outing, although his command wasn’t as sharp as it usually is; he battled and kept the Tigers in striking distance. He showed a short arm action into high-3/4 release with regular effort. Smooth rhythm, in-line direction, landing square and finishing athletic. Fastball sat 83-86 mph with solid life. Breaking ball showed 1/7 shape with good spin and depth at 72-73 mph. Also showed solid changeup with fastball arm speed and fade action at 75-76 mph.

+ 2018 RHP, Bryce Scioneaux, got the ball to start for Destrehan and was dominant through 3 innings of work. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with easy effort. Smooth rhythm, in-line direction and lands square. Fastball sat 85-88 mph with plus angle and heavy life. Flashed quality breaking ball with 11/5 shape, tight spin and sharp break at 73-75 mph. Punched out hitters with relative ease in first three innings. Hahnville rallied in the fourth and Scioneaux began to lose feel for strike zone, eventually exiting in the 4th.

+ 2018 RHP and LSU commit, Landon Marceaux, entered the game in the 6th and slammed the door shut. Clean, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with easy effort. Didn’t have his usual plus command, but still filled up the strike zone with an 87-89 mph fastball.

+ Destrehan was led offensively by 2017 OF Kohen Grainer, who was 2-for-3 with a homer and 2 RBI. As well, 2017 SS Evan Keller was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and Gage Broussard and Dane Simon each went 1-for-3.

+ 2018 RHP, Ian Landreneau, got the start in the district opener for John Curtis and was nothing short of phenomenal, going complete game shut out. Long arm action into high-3/4 release with regular effort. Fastball sat 81-84 mph and was commanded throughout the night to both side of the dish. Breaking ball showed 11/5 shape with solid spin and depth, throwing it for strikes when needed, as well as burying it when needed. Threw three pitches for strikes all night, mixing well, and commanding the fastball down and away at will.

+ 2016 RHP, Mason Mayfield, got the nod for Jesuit and nearly matched Landreneau pitch for pitch. He went complete game as well, but allowed the lone run of the ball game. Long arm action with a slight wrap into high-3/4 release and regular effort. Fastball sat 81-83 mph and was commanded to the outer half extremely well. Also flashed a cutter, slider mix at 77 mph that had some deception and spin.

+ 2017 OF and LSU commit, Daniel Cabrera, came through with one of the two big hits on the night, taking a changeup on outer half and hammering it into left field corner for a stand up double.  2018 infielder Jay Curtis followed by taking a fastball on inner half and shooting it into centerfield to score Cabrera from 2nd base.
