X-FACTOR
Unsigned 2017 catcher, Cade Blanchard, has created quite a significant buzz this fall. Last year, Blanchard was primarily used on the mound, but this fall at the Preseason All-State Games, he separated himself as perhaps one of the best catching prospects in the state of Louisiana. Blanchard’s throwing arm is a true weapon, and should really assist the Dutchtown pitching staff in controling the running game. Nicholls State recruit, 2017 IF Cameron Crawford, is a returning starter and played a significant role for the Griffins in 2016. Crawford will certainly play a much bigger offensive role in 2017.

OUTLOOK
Coach Chris Schexnaydre and the Dutchtown program have been consistent winners over the years. Although the departure of SS Caleb Ricca, who could see significant playing time at Northwestern State during his freshmen campaign, will be tough to replace. 2017 IF Cameron Sibley impressed this past summer and fall, and shows promise to step in the large shoes that Ricca leaves.

BOTTOM LINE
The Griffins will be highly competitive in district 5-5A, and showdowns with area rivals, St. Amant and East Ascension, are always tough battles. Although the lineup will sport many new faces, the Griffins have a solid veteran trio of Blanchard, Crawford, and Sibley; in addition to several other young, promising players.
