A look at LSU's 2015 Recruiting Class

Over the next few weeks Prep Baseball Report Louisiana will take a look at in-state recruiting classes across Louisiana.  We begin our coverage with perennial national powerhouse Louisiana State.  LSU Head Coach Paul Mainieri produced another strong in-state class, even with the departure of longtime assistant and recruiting coordinator Javi Sanchez.  But new recruiting coordinator Andy Cannizaro didn’t miss a beat, even securing some additions in the ’15 class late in summer and early fall.

Brennan Breaux, LHP/OF, St. Thomas Moore HS- Breaux is a 2015 LHP/OF with a 6-foot 180 pound frame from Lafayette, LA.  Breaux pitches out a simple delivery, high ¾ arm slot, good tempo, and the arm works well.  He will pitch 85-87 and will touch 89 occasionally.  He has a good feel for a curveball with 11/5 shape with hard tight spin.  In addition, he has a good feel for a change with some late life.  He throws all 3 pitches for strikes and is extremely tough on left handed hitters.   As an OF, Breaux displays centerfield tools as he is a 6.7 runner with good instincts and tracking speed.  He makes consistently strong on line throws with carry and accuracy.  He hits from the left side with smooth rhythm and tempo, transfers his weight efficiently, and the barrel stays in hitting zone. Gap to gap hitter with pull side power.

O’Neal Lochridge, 3B/SS, St. Thomas Moore HS- Lochridge is 6-foot-1 200 pound 2015 infielder from Lafayette, LA.  Strong athletic frame with third base type tools.  6.8 runner, with soft hands and strong arm with quick release.  Right-handed hitter with a strong compact swing, good leverage, ample bat speed, strength at contact, and pull-side power.

Christopher Reid, INF, St. Michael the Archangel -  Reid is a 2015 INF with a 5-foot-10 175 pound frame from Baton Rouge, LA.  An advanced left-handed hitter with loads of bat speed, loose whippy power, consistent line drive contact with power to both gaps.  Has a ton of moving parts, but displays exceptional timing and handles velocity extremely well.  Likely projects to second base, he has soft hands, arm strength, understands angles and hops, but lacks in range.  Would be hard to imagine him not being a productive offensive player at the college level.

Antoine Duplantis, OF, Lafayette HS- Duplantis is a 2015 OF with a 5-foot-11 180 pound frame from Lafayette, LA.  Exceptional athlete, 6.7 runner, with advanced instincts and tracking speed in the outfield.  Left-handed hitter with a short compact stroke, present bat speed, hits to all fields, and displayed occasional pop.  Plays extremely hard, understands the game and the type of player he is.

The Tigers also added some Junior College prospects, who enjoyed decorated high school careers in the state of Louisiana to round out an impressive 2015 in-state haul.

Cody Ducote, Brother Martin HS/Delgado CC, C/OF - A Catholic League standout for 4 years, Ducote hit .328 with 3 HR 52 RBI and 14 doubles as a freshmen at Delgado.

Bryce Adams, Dunham/Delgado CC, 1B - A Baton Rouge product, Adams hit .379 with 4 HR 35 RBI and slugged .586.

Cole Freeman, Lakeshore HS/Delgado CC, MINF - Freeman hit .255 with 2 HR 26 RBI and 12 SB as a freshmen at Delgado and displayed exceptional defensive ability in the infield that helped the Dolphins reach the World Series.

Jordan Romero, Catholic HS (BR)/LSU-Eunice, C - A Baton Rouge product as well, Romero hit .345 with 3 HR 32 RBI all while playing solid defense.
