This past weekend the state of Louisiana found itself in Quarterfinal matchups in all classifications.

Prep Baseball Report Louisiana made the trip to Lake Charles on Friday night to catch the opening game of No. 1 Barbe and No. 24 St. Amant.

Louisiana State commit, Blayne Enlow, got the start for St. Amant, while 2017 left-hander, Adam Goree got the nod for Barbe.

All the action would occur in the 1st inning, as Barbe would plate three unearned runs, even with Enlow striking out four in the inning.  He would pitch at 88-91 mph for the majority of game, showing solid life occasionally on the fastball. He once again showed a present plus breaking ball with 11/5 shape, tight spin, depth, and command at 77-81 mph. All in all he would strike out nine in six innings of work, allowing zero earned runs.

Goree matched Enlow throughout the night, and picked up the complete game victory, allowing zero runs, while striking out seven. Goree would sit 84-88 mph early in the game, eventually settling in at 83-85 mph. He showed a sharper breaking ball with 1/7 shape, quality spin, and depth at 73-74 mph.

Barbe would eventually sweep St. Amant, advancing to the semi-final round, with their quest for a 3-peat still alive.

It is interesting to note that Barbe is unusually stacked with quality young players, so much in fact, that they will not lose a single starter to graduation.

2018 infielders Antonio Gauthier and Bryan Lawerence showed quality actions, fluid footwork, and strong accurate arms defensively. While Gauthier shows a simple left-handed stroke with bat speed, advanced barrel control, and outstanding speed and quickness.

Below is a look at scores from around the state, as well, here is a link to the state championships schedule this upcoming weekend in Sulphur, LA.
