Prep Baseball Report Louisiana was in attendance for the Louisiana Elite, a new select ball program, tryout on January 10th. Louisiana Elite is a merger of three elite programs from Louisiana, the Hammond Yankees, the Louisiana Knights, and the Northshore Prospects. All three programs have outstanding reputations locally with the Yankees and Knights both enjoying enormous national success over the last few summers. The Knights have been nationally ranked in back-to-back years in the 18U division and the Hammond Yankees have qualified for the Connie Mack World Series, showing nicely in that event last summer. The three programs have joined forces and today PBR Louisiana takes a look at some notes from their tryout, focusing on the standouts from a pitching perspective.

Sean Bretz, RHP, 2016, Jesuit HS
A 6-foot-5, 170-pound right-hander from New Orleans, LA. A long, lean, extremely projectable frame with wide shoulders and lots of room to get stronger. Clean, in-line delivery, little to no effort with long, loose and whippy arm that creates outstanding tilt out of a high-3/4 release. Fastball sat 85-87 with late life and was commanded fairly well. Showed an advanced feel for a changeup with late, hard fade action, quality arm speed and command of the pitch. Breaking ball is still a developing pitch with inconsistent 11/5 shape, occasional tight spin and depth. An exciting prospect that could burst on to the scene this spring for Jesuit HS.

Bryce Tassin, RHP, 2015, Walker HS
A 6-foot-1, 170-pound Southeastern Louisiana signee from Walker, LA. A short, quick, extremely fast arm with good drive from lower half. Fastball was 86-88 mph with occasional life and showed a quality breaking ball with 11/5 shape at 71-73.

Rafe Schindler, RHP, 2017, Chalmette HS
A 6-foot-4, 170-pound right-hander from Chalmette, LA. Long, lean, projectable frame with loose, fast arm out of a high-3/4 release. Clean, in-line delivery with some funkiness in the arm swing and a slight hand wrap. Fastball sat 82-84 mph with occasional life and command. Flashes a quality breaking ball with 11/5 shape, spins correctly, with depth and deception. Exciting young prospect that had a successful freshman season at Chalmette HS, and should continue to get better.

Sean Tweedy, LHP/1B, 2016, Northlake Christian HS
A 6-foot-1, 225-pound left-hander from the Northshore area coming off an arm injury. Big body with present strength and extremely strong lower half. Clean, in-line delivery with loose arm action out of mid-3/4 release. Fastball sat 80-82 mph with arm side run and has an advanced feel for command. Showed a tight spinning slider at 73-75 with sharp, late life off the same angle as fastball. Flashed a decent feel for a changup with arm speed and deception, but has trouble turning it over at times.

Kelsey Ockman, RHP, 2015, Mandeville HS
A 5-foot-10, 170-pound right-hander from Mandeville, LA. Funky arm action out of a high-3/4 release with explosive lower half drive and quality arm strength. Effort in the delivery with little angle and tilt. Fastball sat 85-87 mph, and was commanded fairly well with occasional life and sink. Inconsistent feel for the breaking ball, but flashes a tight spinning 71-73 mph slider with quality depth and deception. Also showed a straight changeup at 76-78 mph.

Chase Fals, LHP, 2016, Pearl River HS
A 6-foot-4, 180-pound left-hander from Pearl River, LA. Long, lean frame with in-line delivery and a loose arm action out of a high-3/4 release. Fastball sat 82-84 mph with late life and deception. Showed a quality breaking ball with 2/8 shape, tight spin, depth and deception. Also flashed a quality changeup with late life, arm speed and lots of deception. Interesting prospect that possess three quality pitches currently and still projects to get better.

Joseph Bulovas, RHP, 2017, Mandeville HS
A 5-foot-11, 185-pound right-hander from Mandeville, LA. Strong frame with present lower half strength. Advanced athlete with funky, developing arm action, and raw arm strength. Fastball sat 82-84 mph with occasional life and flashed a decent spinning breaking ball. With some improvements made to delivery and mechanics he could turn into a quality pitching prospect as he possess some raw tools on the mound.
