Below are a few quick takeaways from our scouting staff on Saturday’s event:

+ 2019 2B Christian Rubin (Comeaux) made an impression on our scouting staff at Saturday’s Underclass Trials. A strong 5-foot-9, 160-pound frame, Rubin displayed quality athleticism by posting a 6.95 60-yard dash. A young prospect still, Rubin’s overall game remains unpolished, but the raw materials are certainly there for his game to continue to improve.

+ 2019 C Bryce Grizzaffi (Central Catholic) showed off loose, fluid athleticism with quick and clean transfers during his defensive work behind the dish. Grizzaffi has a short arm action into high-3/4 release, and gets rid of the ball quickly with carry on throws, posting an event best 77 mph positional velocity from the crouch and a 1.93 pop time.

+ 2019 OF/IF Justin San Salvador (Pope John Paul II) is another young prospect that showed intriguing athleticism. Standing at a physical 6-foot-1, 180-pounds with a strong build, San Salvador posted a 6.93 60-yard dash. In addition, the young prospect is a switch-hitter who should solid bat speed with strength. The swing from the left side is still developing, but he showed fluid rhythm, and found consistent barrel from the right side during his batting practice round.

+ 2019 RHP Caleb Rutledge (West Ouachita) is a yet another talented 2019 arm from West Ouachita high school. An athletic 6-foot-2, 180-pound frame with a strong build, the right-hander showed an athletic delivery on Saturday. Rutledge sat 80-84 mph with his fastball with little effort, which could signal more velocity is to come as he matures in his career.

+ 2021 IF Casey Artigues (St. Thomas Aquinas) was the lone rising freshmen prospect in attendance on Saturday, but was a favorite amongst our scouting staff during batting practice. A left-handed hitter, Artigues showed fluid rhythm with a level path, and made consistent hard contact, driving balls to the pull side for the duration of his round. Defensively, he showed fluid actions with soft hands in the infield, as well as quality athleticism for his age, posting a 7.18 60-yard dash.

+ 2019 RHP Nicholas Judice (Catholic(BR)) is an imposing figure on the mound, standing at 6-foot-6, 170-pounds. A lean build with long levers, Judice is still in the process of filling out his frame. A smooth, athletic delivery, he showed a long, loose arm action into high-3/4 release with tilt to his fastball, which sat 78-81 mph.

+ 2019 IF Lane Hutchinson (Live Oak) was another standout during the batting practice portion of the event. A right-handed hitter, Hutchinson hits from a balanced, athletic setup with a leg lift, and fluid rhythm. As he sprayed line-drives from gap-to-gap, Hutchinson showed a level path with bat speed and strength at contact.
