Prep Baseball Report Louisiana’s first event, the Underclass Trials, for the 2017 and 2018 classes took place on Monday May 25th at St. Thomas Aquinas high school in Hammond, LA. 32 prospects strutted their stuff in front of the Prep Baseball Report’s executive director, the PBR Louisiana staff and several collegiate coaches. Over the last few days the PBR Scouting staff released position player and pitcher rankings of the event, culminating today with the Top Ten Overall Prospects from the showcase.

Top Ten Overall Prospects

  1. Jacob Pearson, OF, West Monroe HS(2017)
    A 6-foot, 185-pound outfielder with an athletic, strong build with present fast twitch actions. Outstanding overall athlete that ran an impressive 6.5 60 yard dash. Left-handed hitter that hits from a balanced, athletic setup with a smooth load, short stride, explosive lower half and excellent balance. Displays lightning quick bat speed that produced an exit velocity of 100 mph. Line-drive type hitter that showed advanced pull power potential hitting numerous home runs during live batting practice. Solid defender with soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, plays through balls well, but lacks in arm strength.
  2. Blayne Enlow, RHP, St. Amant HS(2017)
    A 6-foot-3, 160-pound rising junior with a projectable, lanky, athletic frame and broad shoulders. Clean, long, loose arm action with lightning arm speed into a high-3/4 release. Smooth rhythm throughout the delivery with little effort, in-line direction, lands square, and finishes athletic. Fastball sat 85-88 mph with slight sink action and was controlled in the strike zone with quality tilt and angle. Breaking ball had 11/5 shape with solid rotation, sharp, late break and deception at 74-76 mph. Showed an outstanding feel for change up with fastball arm speed, deception and late, hard fade action at 79-80 mph.
  3. Miguel Reyes, INF/RHP, Lafayette HS(2017)
    A 6-foot-2, 215-pound rising junior with a large, physical, strong, and athletic frame. Outstanding athlete that ran a 6.84 60 yard dash. Right-handed hitter that hits out of an athletic, open setup with a slight wrap and bar in the load. Short stride with an explosive lower half and solid balance. Displays big raw power with explosive bat speed and present pull power. Bat path has a tendency to be in and out of zone and there is slight stiffness at times in the swing. Solid defense infielder with soft hands, a clean exchange, and carry on throws. Footwork is slow and he has a tendency to play on his heels which projects him to be a third baseman. Right-handed pitcher with a short, stiff arm action and a stab on the backend into a high-3/4 release. Showed quick arm speed and raw arm strength, but struggles to consistently find the proper release point consistently. Fastball sat 85-87 mph with slight sink, and was erratic in the strike zone. Displayed a solid feel for a breaking ball with 10/4 shape, tight spin, and sharp action at 73-77 mph. Changeup is a developing pitch with near fastball arm speed and occasional slight fade action at 79-80 mph.
  4. Brock Batty, LHP/1B, Denham Springs HS(2017)
    A 6-foot-1, 175-pound rising junior with a medium, athletic frame. Left-handed pitcher with a clean, repeatable delivery landing square, in-line with an athletic finish. Displays smooth rhythm throughout with long, loose arm action with quick arm speed into a ¾ release and easy effort. Fastball sat 83-85 mph with slight sink and arm side run. Showed an outstanding feel for curveball with 1/7 shape, tight spin and sharp, late break at 70-72 mph. Displayed a quality change up with fastball arm speed, deception and late, hard fade action. Also showed a slider that had sharp, late break with deception but lacked in depth making it closer to a cutter. Right-handed hitter with athletic, balanced setup, smooth load, short stride and quick hands. Line-drive type swing with a short, flat path through the zone and fluid rhythm throughout the swing. Quality overall athlete that ran a 7.19 60 yard dash and had an 87 mph exit velocity. Solid defensive first baseman with soft hands and quality arm strength.
  5. Austin Perrin, LHP, Hahnville HS(2017)
    A 5-foot-10, 170-pound left-handed pitcher with a small, athletic frame. Simple, clean repeatable delivery with smooth rhythm, in-line direction, lands square and finishes athletic. Short, clean arm action with quick arm speed into a high-3/4 release and regular effort. Fastball sat 80-82 mph touching 83 with slight arm side run. Breaking ball had 1/7 shape with sharp, late break and solid depth at 69-71 mph. Changeup proved to be his best pitch with fastball arm speed, deception and late, hard sink action at 74-76 mph. Threw all three pitches for strikes and worked at an outstanding tempo.
  6. Slade Bolden, OF, West Monroe HS(2018)
    A 5-foot-11, 183-pound outfielder and third baseman with an athletic, strong frame. Quality athlete that ran a 7.0 60 yard dash. Defensively he showed soft hands and fluid footwork in the outfield with a positional velocity of 80 mph. Right-handed hitter with a balanced, athletic setup with little to no load, short stride and explosive lower half. Generates solid bat speed that produced an 85 mph exit velocity, showed occasional pull power and had a flat path through the zone.
  7. Kobe Cazes, RHP, Chalmette HS(2017)
    A 6-foot, 155-pound right-handed pitcher with an average, athletic frame that has projection. Clean, long, loose arm action into a high-3/4 release with smooth rhythm throughout the delivery. Fastball sat 80-83 with slight run that was commanded well. Showed advanced feel to spin a breaking ball with 11/5 shape, depth and tight spin at 70-72 mph. Also showcased a changeup with near fastball arm speed and fade action at 72-75 mph.
  8. Maxwell Wagner, RHP, Catholic(BR) HS(2017)
    A 6-foot-3, 210-pound right-handed pitcher with a large, strong, and athletic frame. Clean, long, loose arm action with regular effort, smooth rhythm throughout the delivery, and in-line direction. Fastball sat 84-86 mph touching 87 mph with a quick arm out of a high-3/4 release. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with near fastball arm speed, and gradual break at 69-72 mph. Showed a changeup with near fastball arm speed and slight fade action at 77-78 mph.
  9. Logan Stevens, OF, Northlake Christian HS(2018)
    A 6-foot, 185-pound outfielder and right-handed pitcher with an average, athletic frame. Left-handed hitter that hits from an athletic, balanced setup with smooth load, short stride, and excellent balance. Line-drive, gap to gap type hitter with a level bat path, fluid rhythm and solid bat speed that produced an 83 mph exit velocity. Ran a 7.33 60 yard dash, as well as showing a clean exchange in the outfield with a positional velocity of 77 mph.
  10. Preston Faulkner, OF/3B, Live Oak HS(2017)
    A 6-foot, 194-pound outfielder and third baseman with a strong, physical, athletic frame. Right-handed hitter with a tall, balanced setup, smooth load, leg kick and solid balance throughout the swing. Line-drive type hitter with a gap to gap approach, fluid rhythm throughout that showed exceptional bat speed recording an 89 mph exit velocity. Showed solid athleticism running a 7.2 60 yard dash, as well as soft hands defensively with carry on throws and a positional velocity of 76 mph.
