This weekend Prep Baseball Report Louisiana spent time at numerous games in the southeast Louisiana area, which mainly included games in the WGNO classic.

Below are some notes taken for this weekend, and a few noteworthy performances that were sent into to us.

+ St. Thomas Aquinas RHP Alex Egan (2018) was extremely impressive against John Curtis on Friday. He went 6 innings, giving up 3 hits, 1 BB, 0 runs and struck out 7. Showed clean arm action with 82-84 mph fastball and quality command of 3 pitches. He worked with outstanding pace and tempo, and showed advanced pitchability.

+ St. Thomas Aquinas INF Champ Artigues (2018) showed quality defensive skills, and a simple, flat left-handed stroke that made hard contact on several occasions.

+ Donald Roberts, another left-handed hitter for St. Thomas Aquinas, showed a flat bat path on the way to making solid contact on a couple occasions as well.

+ Baton Rouge CC commit and John Curtis OF Mason Matherne (2016) made an outstanding catch crashing into the wall, and also put several good swings together. A physical, strong athlete Matherne paired with, Daniel Cabrera, in the John Curtis outfield makes that unit very strong, as Cabrera showed plus defensive ability in centerfield making a couple extremely difficult plays on Friday.

+ Jesuit HS and Brother Martin HS were very impressive over the weekend as both clubs remain undefeated, as the depth of the clubs really showed in the 4-game weekend.

+ Jesuit INF/OF Nick Ray (2017) had a really nice offensive weekend, which included a long home run on Saturday. A strong, athletic frame with plenty of projection, Ray is a premium athlete that could be one to keep an eye on this spring.

+ Brother Martin RHP Keagan Gillies (2016) was impressive on Saturday night, as several professional scouts were on hand to see him throw. He sat 83-88 mph with a quality breaking ball that had tight spin, and depth at 73-76 mph. He struck out 10, and dominated hitters for the first 4 innings.

+ Brother Martin C Kevin Stretzinger (2016) showed a consistent, flat stroke with bat speed putting numerous quality swings together which resulted in several hits for the Crusaders. He also showed quality catch and throw ability with a consistent in-game pop time of 2.1 seconds.

+ West Monroe OF Jacob Pearson (2017) went 6-for-10 with 1 double, 5 RBI, and 5 runs scored on the weekend.

+ St. Amant RHP Blayne Enlow (2017) pitched 6 innings with 8 strikeouts, gave up 2 runs, 3 hits, and walked 2.

+ Hahnville LHP Austin Perrin (2017) pitched 6 innings with 10 strikeouts, 0 earned runs, and 3 hits.

+ Denham Springs LHP Brock Batty (2017) struck out 10, gave up 3 hits and 1 earned run.

+ Denham Springs C Jacob Siegel (2017) hit a grand slam against Assumption over the weekend.

+ Grace Christian OF Joshua Gann (2017) went 9-for-14 with 4 doubles, 14 RBI, , scored 10 runs and had 6 stolen bases.
