PBR MA Director of Scouting

Jacob Yish, OF, St. John’s Prep, Class of 2016

PBR: How is the fall going and what are your plans after the fall concludes?

Jacob: I play football for St. John’s Prep, so I take a break from baseball once the summer season is over. In November I’ll get back to my individual baseball workouts with Steve Lomasney at Show Baseball Academy in Lawrence in order to prepare for the All World/All American Baseball Classic at Marlin’s Park in Miami, FL on Jan 2nd. I’m really looking forward to that experience.

PBR: How was the recruiting process and what made you choose Boston College?

Jacob: I learned a lot about the recruiting process as I went through it. It helped to visit the colleges and go to prospect camps because I could see the campuses and get to know the coaches. I chose Boston College because the coaches were really committed to me and I’d be playing in the ACC, one of the most competitive conferences in the country. It was also important to me that BC is such a great academic school.

PBR: What do you feel your strengths and weaknesses are as a player ?

Jacob: I believe my batting is the strongest part of my game. I have put a lot of time and effort into it, and it is something I am proud of. If I had to pick a weakness as a player it would be the need to get more experience in the outfield. Last year was my first year primarily playing outfield. Before last year, I was primarily behind the plate.

PBR: Who has influenced your life growing up?

Jacob: A man that has tremendously influenced my life regarding baseball, and also my life in general, is Steve Lomasney. I have worked with Steve since I was 9 or 10 years old. He has helped me improve as a player and as a person. He also played a huge part in my recruiting process. I wouldn't have been able to do it without him.

PBR:  What are your goals and expectations for the next two years of high school ?

Jacob: For the next two years of high school, I hope to continue to receive good grades in my classes, and also score well on the SATs. For baseball, my ultimate goal is to win the Super 8.
