The Massachusetts Big Board: Top Uncommitted Underclass Pitchers

By Dennis Healy
PBR MA Director of Scouting

Throughout the month we look to highlight some of the top uncommitted talent. Below we would like to showcase several of the top uncommitted pitchers from the Massachusetts' area.

Top Uncommitted underclass pitching Prospects

Jackson Gillis, LHP, Wilmington HS, 2016

Jackson is a 2016 left-handed pitcher from Wilmington High School.  He is a power lefty with a good feel for his body and delivery. He stands at 6-foot-2, 200-pounds and still has some room to grow. He pitched at 88-90 mph on the day that I saw him. Showed the ability to throw strikes with his fastball on both sides of the dish. His breaking ball spin is good and the velocity of it will come as he develops. He showed a good feel for the change up in the bullpen as well. He controlled the running game with a lift and slide step and showed good athleticism off the mound.

Morgan McSweeney, RHP, Worcester Academy, 2016

This 2016 Worcester Academy right-handed pitcher has plenty to like as he pitches with an explosive fastball on both sides of the dish. He showed us an 86-89 mph fastball with a 72 frisbee style breaking pitch. He did show the ability to throw his change up in any count and wasn't scared doing so. Keep an eye on this young man and he has a feel for his delivery and certainly can handle the running game at the next level.

Jared Wetherbee, LHP, St. John's Shrewsbury, 2016

Jared is a 2016 graduate of St. John’s Shrewsbury. He is a 6-foot-1, 185-pound left-handed pitcher with some room for some growth.  He shows us a fast and clean arm with real good extension. His fastball velo is in the low to mid 80’s as of right now but his arm is quick and have no problem bumping up as he progresses.  He spun the ball nicely and showed a decent feel for his change up. His slot tends to get a little high but he is athletic and he should be able to tweak that and become a formidable left hander at the next level.
