Season Outlook
Whitman is looking to build off their 2015 campaign after losing to Montgomery Blair in the Regional Semi-Finals Pitching and defense looks to be the backbone for the Vikings with a strong core of pitchers and the middle of the defense return and get stronger. Ian Atkinson anchors up the defense at the shortstop position, coming back in the middle after only three errors in 21 games in 2015. C Patrick Cashmere will spend his first full season behind the plate after hitting .571 in 10 games for the Vikings after being called up from the JV roster.

On the mound Sean Cook looks to anchor the staff this season after 24 IP and a 1.46 ERA in multiple roles for the Vikings last season. Cook will have to replace the loss of graduated LHP Sam Berson, who went 5-2 in 39.1 innings and a 1.78 ERA last year. Max Palermo and Ezra Pine should see an increase in their roles on the staff in 2016.  Palermo is the possible candidate for the No. 2 spot in the rotation after making four starts in 11 appearances and 24 innings. Pine should build off 2015 where he had a 3.15 ERA in 13.1 innings.

Offense looks to be the question for Whitman in 2016 after losing the anchor in the middle of their lineup Alex Clark and his .368 BA and team leading two homeruns. Look for Cook (.339 BA, 6 2B) and OF Eric Wayman (.333 BA 12 SB) to play key roles in the offense. Wayman will be at the top of the Viking lineup and be a consistent threat on the basepaths for an aggressive Vikings team that stole 45 bases in their 21 games. The aforementioned Patrick Cashmere may not match the .571 average in his 10-game stint for the Vikings, but hopes to build off his first year on varsity. Atkinson also looks to build off his .278 BA in 2015 for Whitman. Keep an eye on the Vikings this 2016.
