2016 Top Performers: Outfield

With 2016 coming to a close we will spend the final week of the year highlighting top performances from events over the course of our second year in the Old Line State. We will have positional breakdowns throughout the week, recapping the year for PBR Maryland.

Top Outfielders

Randy Bednar OF Landon 2017

Event: Maryland Preseason ID
2.21.16 - Solid athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. Ran a 6.74 60-yard dash. Hits from an athletic set up with smooth load and leg kick. Has direct swing path to the ball with explosive bat speed. Squared the baseball extremely well during batting practice. Extension through contact with backspin on the ball.  Gap-to-gap style hitter with power. Nice lower half involvement.  Exit velocity of 94 mph. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with loose arm action.  Clean hands and exchange with active feet.  Works thru the ball very well and throws have life on them at 89 mph.

Ethan Gallagher OF Mount St. Joseph 2017

Event: Maryland Preseason ID
2.21.16 - Solid athletic frame at 6-foot, 230-pounds. Ran a 7.13 60-yard dash. Hits from a tall, balanced set up. Smooth load with rhythm in swing. Short stride to hitting position. Has short swing to ball slightly up hill at times.  Nice lowe half and torque in swing. Strength at the plate. Creates fast bat speed to the ball with pull side pop at the moment and potential for power to all fields. Exit velocity of 99 mph. Active feet in the outfield. Clean exchange and works thru the ball. Throws from an almost-over-the-top arm angle. Falls slightly to the glove side after throw.  Ball has some carry on it at 81 mph.

Gerald Buchanan OF Magruder 2017

Event: Top Prospect Games
6.21.16 - Short load with slight kick. Short, direct path to the baseball with fast bat speed. Nice rhythm throughout swing. Peppered the gaps during BP and shows some power potential. Active feet in the outfield, works thru the ball well. Has a clean and quick exchange to release. Throws from a high ¾ slot and throws were accurate to the plate.

Ethan Wentzlaff OF Damascus 2018

Event: Fall Underclass Invitational
11.5.16 - Athletic frame at 6-foot-0, 170-pounds. Ran a 6.99 60-yard dash. Hits from a balanced, square set up. Shows nice rhythm in swing. Short path to the ball with a middle approach. Level swing path with good extension through contact. Good use of bottom half and hip drive. Exit velocity of 94mph.  Active feet in the outfield with soft hands and a clean exchange. Has quick, compact arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm slot. Throws from the outfield had some carry at 85 mph.

David Willis OF Red Lion Christian 2018

Event: PBR Future Games
8.4.16 - Rounded out an athletic and projectable outfield class for team Mid-Atlantic. Athletic body and actions from the outfielder with the ability to play all the outfield positions. Has a short swing and creates fast bat speed with his level swing path. Shows power potential at the plate to the middle of the field. Short arm action from the outfield and some carry on throws at 83 mph. 90 mph exit velocity and ran a 6.97 60-yard dash. Aggressive on the bases with an idea as stole six bases throughout the event.

Brooks Bengtson OF Georgetown Prep 2018

Event: PBR Future Games
8.4.16 - Showed off one of the top outfield velocities of the event with a 90 mph arm from right field on the day. Throws had life on them and were accurate. Short quick arm action from the outfield. Hits from slightly open taller setup . Nice rhythm at plate. Short swing path, gets around the ball at times. Quick bat speed. 89 mph exit velocity and ran a 7.12 60-yard dash.
