For the beginning of the year, we are doing a quick update to the Maryland 2018 and 2019 rankings. With both classes we have updated the top half of the rankings to coincide with the new updated overall rankings with new inclusions as well to the top part of the ranks. In early March there will be a complete update to the Maryland rankings for these classes as well as an update to the 2017 class and our initial 2020 Maryland rankings release.

The 2020 class will be one to keep an eye on, especially after the Freshmen Free Showcase coming up on January 21 at Athletic Performance Inc. Already there is a full list of participants (CLICK HERE to see the current roster) and spots are still available (CLICK HERE for more info).

Today we are going to take a look at some of the movers in the class of 2018. Tomorrow we will look into the 2019 rankings, as well as look at some of the players that will see themselves in the 2020 rankings.

The biggest newcomer to the 2018 Maryland rankings is infielder Jose Rivera of Riverdale Baptist. Rivera quietly made a nice name for himself this summer after transferring in during the fall of 2015.

Also jumping into the 2018 rankings is outfielder Jacob Wetzel of Walkersville high school. Wetzel throws and hits from the left side and shows good speed along with some pop at the plate. Wetzel made his commitment to Old Dominion in September.

Colin Taeschner had a strong fall after his showing at the Fall Underclass Invitational and was the biggest riser in the top half moving into the top 20 of the rankings. Taeschner saw a big jump in velocity on the mound, going from 83 in June to pitching 85-87 this fall, hitting 88 multiple times. He did that as well during his performance at the Fall Underclass Invitational to cement his move in the rankings.
