The Bel Air Bobcats exploded for six runs in the sixth inning while the pitching continued their dominant ways en route to a 8-1 victory over Quince Orchard for the 4A state title.

The victory gives Bel Air their third state title in school history with their first coming in 1996 and second in 2013.

Bel Air did not waste any time to get on the board, scoring in the first inning after a leadoff single by Liam Bowers. Bowers would move to third after a walk and infield single and would then come home from a sacrifice fly ball off the bat of senior Luke Beyers. The Bobcats would agains strike in the third inning off of a big two-out single to shallow left center from junior Zack Radcliffe to extend their lead to 2-0.

Quince Orchard would strike back in the fourth inning after senior Nick Moon drove a double to right-center field that scored the runner from first base with two out to cut the lead to 2-1.  Both teams would have opportunities for more but would go quietly until the bottom of the sixth.

With two outs and bases loaded holding on to their 2-1 lead, the Bobcats would strike again, this time with leadoff man Bowers clearing the bases after driving a double to left centerfield. After a walk, Bowers would then score after an RBI single off of Jack Jenkens. Beyers would again drive in runs, this time with a two run single to right field. The six run inning would give Bel Air the 8-1 lead which they would close out for the victory.

Once again the Bobcats pitching came through in the clutch throughout the game giving up only one run to a resilient Quince Orchard squad. Jenkens was the starting pitcher and was able to get himself out of multiple jams with runners in scoring situations. The Shippensburg commit was 79-83 mph through his start using both sides of the plate effectively and keeping hitters off balance with his 70-73 mph breaking ball. Mike Yetter then came in with one runner on in the fifth to slam the door. Overall the Bobcats pitching staff wen throughout the 2016 playoffs only conceiding two runs throughout.

Bowers led the Bobcats with three hits and three runs batted in.  Beyers also collected three RBI’s fwith one hit on the day.

Moon led Quince Orchard with two hits.
