Blue Chips Baseball Catcher Analysis

Tyler Blittersdorf, C, Oxford Area, 2019
Built frame at 5-9, 196lbs. He ran a 7.40 second 60-yard dash. At the plate, he has an athletic set up with hands preloaded in launch position. He generates rhythm into the pitch with a significant leg kick. Remains balanced throughout a quick load into backside. At foot strike, his hips explode on the ball and hands fly through the zone on a slightly uphill path. He has solid bat speed as his barrel is long through the zone and gets extension after contact. Exit velocity of 86. At third base, his actions are soft and effortless. Can add more velocity on throws if his feet are more active. His hands are loose and secure the ball well. Behind the plate, his exchange is clean which allows him to get throw off quickly as he replaces his feet.

Chris Hagan, C, Gerstell Academy, 2020
Hagan has a compact yet strong frame at 5-6, 175lbs. He ran a 7.27 second 60-yard dash. With the bat, he has a narrow and open setup with hands relaxed in a strong position. Generates some rhythm with the help of a balanced leg kick. Barrel stays in the zone long on an inside out path and extends after contact. Hips turn on a tight axis as he finishes in a stacked, tall position. In the infield, his actions are clean and efficient. His feet are active and allow his hands to work out in front. Showed some arm speed with short action. Behind the plate, he replaces his feet well and makes quick exchanges. Arm works efficiently and throws have carry.

Tyler Leach, C, CM Wright, 2020
Leach ran a 7.91 second 60-yard dash on a thick track. The catcher/ pitcher features a wide and crouched set up. His hands start at shoulder level and load back in rhythm with a quick stride. His bat path is long and level through the zone with some extension after contact. He uses core and can add more power with increased lower half involvement. Exit velocity of 81mph. Behind the plate, he replaces his feet well and transfers the ball efficiently. He has a short arm action and repeatedly puts the ball on the bag. Best pop time was 2.06 seconds.

Tyler Tufano, C, Dulaney, 2019
Tufano ran a 7.27 second 60-yard dash on a thick track. At the plate, he generates some rhythm and displayed quiet, quick movements. He has an athletic and balanced setup with a short leg lift. His hands are quick to the ball and work from an inside path. His barrel stays level through the zone and gets some extension after contact. Exit velocity of 79mph. Behind the plate, he replaces feet quickly and makes clean exchanges. Throws carried and were consistently on the bag. Catcher velocity of 69mph.
