The Maryland Insider covers a wide variety of information on players in the state. We will cover events, players to watch, rankings, best in class, and many more topics that will cover the many levels of high school baseball.

The Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches hosted their event last week selecting four teams of rising seniors with a select group of rising juniors.  All told, players from across the state gathered in Bowie at the Baysox stadium and played in two games that night. Below is some of the notes gathered on players during the games (in no particular order).

+ 2016 LHP Jaret Bennet was 83-85 with his athletic delivery and sound arm action. Breaking ball was 65 mph with 2/8 shape. More consistent hand positioning should improve the rotation as earlier in the year pitch had potential power action. Change up was 76 mph.

+ 2017 Grant Burleson, a Maryland commit, sat 84-87 with his short and lighting fast arm speed.  What impressed the most was his breaking ball at 75 mph with 1/7 action and sharp and late life on the pitch.

+ Spencer Dietrich is a strike thrower. Commands three pitches and fills the zone.  Was 79-80 on this day but got up to 82 mph the following day at the Top Prospect Games. Fastball has some late action on the pitch and breaking ball had 11/5 action. Shows feel for the change up...
