The summer flurry of commitments has been in full swing with 20 commitments from the 2017 class alone that we have recorded. Today we look at the players thus far that have made their college decisions.

2017 commitments

Gerald Buchanan OF Magruder

Buchanan6.14.16 - Solid frame at 5-foot-9, 185 pounds. Explosive athletic with raw potential and should see himself in the 2017 rankings. Ran a 7.47 60-yard dash. Hits from a slightly open setup. Short stride, level swing path, quick bat speed with extension. Looks to have power potential. Exit velo of 92 mph. Active feet in the outfield. Soft hands and clean exchange. Athletic arm action from high three quarter angle. Throws have carry on them at 87 mph. Active feet in infield, works thru ball and throws from three quarter arm slot.

Ryan Bywaters RHP/OF Smithsburg

Ryan Bywaters6.21.16 - Athletic frame with some length at 6-foot-4 170-pounds. Controlled delivery with good  tempo. Throws from a high ¾ arm slot with loose and free  arm action. Fast arm speed with an in-line finish. Gets nice backside usage. When works downhill can be a shutdown type guy. Fastball has slight run up to 88 mph. Breaking ball has 12/6 action with depth and tight rotation. Potential at 72 mph. Change has sink to the pitch at 78 mph. More in the tank as he continues to add to his frame.

KJ Curry6.21.16 - Compact, athletic frame at 5-foot-9, 170-pounds. High motor athlete that plays game at a high speed. Hits from an athletic set up. Quick load, short swing path, and attacks the baseball. Nice rhythm throughout. active feet in the infield. Clean hands, quick exchange, short arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm angle. Average carry on throws at 78 mph.

Elmore6.21.16 - Solid athletic frame at 6-foot, 190-pounds. Hits from a alsightly open set up. Quick load, slight drift, short bat path, some extension through contact. Power potential to pull side. exit velo of 89 mph. Sound actions from the infield. Clean hands and exchange with a short arm action throwing from a high three-quarter arm angle. Infield velocity of 78 mph.

Sean Fisher LHP Parkside
Maryland
fisher2.21.16 - Strong athletic frame at 6-foot-1, 185-pounds. Controlled delivery. Has a free arm action with fast arm speed. Shows some lower half usage and looks like could get a bit more from backside. Lands square to the plate in athletic position. Works downhill well. Fastball has slight sink to the pitch at 85 mph. Breaking ball is a slider is 2/8 movement and short break at 70 mph. Shows near fastball arm speed on the pitch. Changeup has hard sink and dive to the pitch with fastball arm speed at 76 mph. Change up is a good pitch. Another projectable lefty to keep an eye on in the 2017 class.

Harry Flannery INF/RHP Georgetown Prep

3.5.16 - 2017 Harry Flannery was 83-85 in his first inning and then sat 80-83 the rest of the way in his game one start. Was a bit inconsistent with the slider with his hand positioning, getting under the ball at times and more side-to-side action.  Made nice adjustment after second inning and pitch showed better depth and rotation. Had a quick bat at the plate and is an interesting prospect with some two way potential. He got a bit pull happy at times, but shows nice bat speed and rhythm at the plate.

Ethan Gallagher OF Mount St. Joseph

Gallagher2.21.16 - Solid athletic frame at 6-foot, 230-pounds. Ran a 7.13 60-yard dash. Hits from a tall, balanced set up. Smooth load with rhythm in swing. Short stride to hitting position. Has short swing to ball slightly up hill at times.  Nice lowe half and torque in swing. Strength at the plate. Creates fast bat speed to the ball with pull side pop at the moment and potential for power to all fields. Exit velocity of 99 mph. Active feet in the outfield. Clean exchange and works thru the ball. Throws from an almost-over-the-top arm angle. Falls slightly to the glove side after throw.  Ball has some carry on it at 81 mph.

Joey Goodwin SS/3B Good Counsel

3.8.16 - Hard to keep track of all the team as they were in practice gear for the scrimmage, but one of the many players that stuck out for Good Counsel was 2017 SS Joey Goodwin. The 2017 grad showed sound actoins from the infield and a short swing with bat speed at the plate. Plays the game at a high speed. Quick, confident first step. A bit unorthodox at times, but I liked the way he played the game and is a interesting prospect to keep an eye on.

Joey Haass6.21.16 - Athletic frame at 6-foot, 155-pounds. An electric arm with more in the tank that has flown relatively under the radar. Controlled delivery, shorter clean arm action with fast arm speed. Smooth lower half with nice drive from back side and finishes off toward first base side after release. Throws from a 3/4 arm angle.  Fastball has slight run on the pitch up to 88 mph. Slider has late life on the pitch and is a put away type pitch up to 78 mph. Shows feel for a change up at 74-75 mph.

Hurley6.21.16 - Solid strong frame at 6-foot-1, 210-pounds. Hits from an athletic set up. Longer swing path with quick bat speed and power potential. Gets nice lower half usage and shows extension through contact. Exit velocity of 91 mph. Sound actions from first, has a short arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. Average carry on throws across the diamond at 72 mph.

Eric Lansinger 3B Damascus

Lansinger6.30.15 - Athletic frame at 6-foot-1 180-pounds.  Balanced set up with high hands and a short and simple load/stride.  Good athletic position upon foot strike.  Short and level bat path through the zone with fast bat speed.  Gap-to-gap approach with some potential for some power.  Sound footwork with a clean exchange.  Loose arm action throwing from a high ¾ arm angle across the diamond at 77 mph. throws were consistent. Played through the ball well with fluid hands. Ran a 4.42 home to first and had an exit velocity of 89 mph.

Garrett Matheny C Calvert Hall

matheny11.1.15 - Athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 175-pounds. Ran a 6.99 60-yard dash. Hits from a balanced, slightly open set up. Quick leg kick in load. Level, uphill swing with some extension. Nice lower half and balance throughout. Exit velocity of 87 mph. Sticks ball well behind the plate with athletic set up. Higher set up when throwing down to second. Quick feet and exchange on throws. Short arm action from ¾ arm angle. Catcher velocity of 74 mph and pop time as low as 1.97.

6.11.16 - Nichols is an interesting athletic for the Delmarva Shorebirds. Shows bat spped at the plate with some pull side power potential. Raw athleticism. Has arm strength and showed that off on the mound getting up to 88 mph with nice life in the arm.

rivera6.21.16 - Athletic frame at 6-foot, 170-pounds. Hit from a slightly open setup. high leg kick into swing. Shorter swing path with some bat speed at the plate and shows some extension through contact. Exit velocity of 91 mph. Pitches in a controlled delivery with slight corkscrew at lift. smooth lower half working down hill. Loose arm action with some arm speed throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. Fastball has run on the pitch up to 85 mph. Breaking ball shows tight 11/5 shape and change up has slight fade on the pitch. More in the tank and still has plenty of untapped potential while being a potential two-way prospect.

sass6.21.16 - Lanky, tall frame at 6-foot-4, 205-pounds. Build up type delivery. Compact lift with nice hip load. Free arm action with pause after hand break. Nice lower half usage. Throws from an almost over the top arm angle. Fastball has nice cut and sink on the pitch up to 82 on the day. Big breaking ball with 12/6 action and gradual break. Change up has nice fade on the pitch. at 71 mph. As he continues to build and add to his frame, should be able to get more out of the prospect.

Connor Shockley SS/RHP Parkside

shockley6.21.16 - Athletic frame at 5-foot-11, 175-pounds. Hits from an athletic, slightly open set up. Smooth load and will open up sometimes when landing to hitting position. Short bat path, slightly up hill at times, quick hands, some extension through contact, nice lower half and rhythm throughout. Smooth actions from teh infield. Active feet clean hands, nice exchange and throws across diamond are accurate and have some carry at  79 mph.

steckline7.31.15 - Large projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 220-pounds. Throws from a high three-quarter arm angle. Has a sound arm action and creates quick arm speed. Has a controlled delivery with nice tempo throughout. Lands slightly across his body with finish toward third base. Changes his arm angle to a low three-quarter / sidearm for fastball. Fastball has gets more sink on it from down low and has occasional cut from regular arm angle. Shows command up to 82 mph. Breaking ball has 1-to-7 movement with near fastball arm speed at 72 mph.  Pitch has gradual break and tight rotation with potential. Also potential two-way player at first base. Shows room for growth on the mound.
