Border Battle Games: Complete Stats

By Mike Penn
Michigan Director of Scouting

The weather at the Border Battle Games didn't cooperate as well as we had hoped but overall there were many good performances turned in.

The White and Blue teams took the stage first in the morning session.  Unsigned senior Cliff Landess (Carleton Airport HS, 2014) had the best stuff in the game, sitting a comfortable 83-85mph and flashing a good breaking ball. Brendan Nearing (Saline HS, 2015) popped onto the radar with a good overall performance. The 6-foot-4 lefty sat 79-82mph from the left side and shows promise moving forward.

Infielders Jordan Swiss (Petoskey, 2015), Max Schuemann (Portage Northern HS, 2015), and Richard Chan (Sandwich Secondary, 2014) stood out in the showcase portion, while Miles Hardy (Lake Orion, 2015) and Noah Wittkopp (Grand Haven, 2015) possessed the best tools among the outfielders.

Session two included the Red and Black teams and lots of high-end talent.  The collection of arms alone was arguably the best collective group seen in the state this fall.  Lefties Dion Henderson (Divine Child HS, 2016), Ben Keizer (Portage Northern, 2015), Tommy Henry (Portage Northern, 2016), and Tyler Butzin (Taylor Kennedy, 2015) all were as good as advertised despite being limited to bullpens inside.

Not to be outdone, Matt Clark (Adrian HS, 2015) and Jack Weisenburger (Rockford HS, 2016) showed that the future is bright for up-and-coming righties over the next few years in Michigan.

Canice Ejoh, a Canadian, was incredibly impressive in the second session.  Ejoh is a physically built 6-foot, 190-pound outfielder with big-time pop in his bat, as evidenced by his impressive 88mph exit velocity with wood.

Over the next few days we will highlight more players, but for now here are the complete statistics.
