Highlights and Complete Stats from the Underclass Preview

By Mike Penn
Michigan Scouting Director

The Underclass Preview was a huge success and brought a lot of new talent to light in the 2014, 2015 and 2016 recruiting classes.  There was plenty of high-end talent on display at the Diamonds facility in Grand Rapids.

The talented group of arms highlighted the night.  6-foot-6 right-hander Dennis Jordan (St. Joseph's HS) was dynamite. He sat 87-88mph with sink and pounded the strike zone. All in all there were five arms that were at least 84mph: Jordan, Karl Kauffmann (Brother Rice HS), Chandler Sedat (West Bloomfield Hills HS), Landon Haney (Rockford HS) and Riley McCauley (Sterling Heights Stevenson HS). Additionally, there were plenty of projectable arms that may not have had the best velocity on the day but still caught our eye and will garner attention: Parker McAnallen (Dewitt HS), Alexx Zielinksi (Brighton HS), Tyler Waldrop (Grand Ledge HS), Tyler Pols (Byron Center HS), Bryce Kelley (Rockford HS), and Landon Haney (Rockford HS).

The position players certainly should not be overlooked however.  Jake Vander Wal (Grand Rapids Central Catholic HS), Jaeden Thompson (Otsego HS), Tyler Pellerito (Rockford HS) and Mason Opple (Hudsonville HS) were all sub 7.0 in the 60.  Each of the four were impressive from the plate as well.

From a catching perspective there were several good prospects. Jake Garbarino (Grandville HS) and Brent Showers (Rockford HS) were both sub 2.0 in the pop times.  Young Tanner Kaplan (Traverse City St. Francis HS) also held his own with a 2.01 pop.

Over the next few days we will provide complete in-depth analysis of all of the positions, including more information on the players listed above.
