Inside the Recruitment: '15 C Gerrit Eding commits to Saginaw Valley State

Gerrit Eding, C, Hamilton HS, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose SVSU?

Eding: I chose SVSU because it felt like the right fit for me, it was one of the first colleges I visited and I liked it from the first opportunity I had to walk through the campus. I'm going into secondary education and they have a good teaching program, and I really felt comfortable with Coach Ebright. Everything just felt right.

PBR: What other schools were you considerin

Eding: I was considering Cornerstone University, Aquinas College, Concordia (Ann Arbor) and Hillsdale.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you

Eding: The coaching staff first saw me play at their 2013 winter camp, and then again at the Ed Santa showcase this fall.

PBR: What team do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable moment

Eding: I played for the Starz 18U out of Wyoming this past summer under Coach Brian Hass and Coach Ron Vansloten. Most memorable moment was when we played and won a game at Notre Dame's field.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process

Eding: My long time dream was to play college baseball, and I just wanted to go to a school where I could play at and contribute to. My expectatons were that the right school was going show up, where the academics and college atmosphere aligned with my athletic goals.  Saginaw Valley ended up being that place.

PBR: What were your stats last season

Eding: Hamilton High School - Batting Average: 0.400, Doubles: 11, Triples: 2, RBI's: 34, Home Runs: 2, SLG%: .581, Stolen Bases: 12.

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced?

Eding: The toughest pitcher I have ever faced was in practice because it is my friend, Grant Wolfram. He is a great pitcher who is going to do big things over at Central Michigan University.
