No. 2 Brother Rice Takes Two from Detroit Central Catholic

Two veteran Catholic League players squared off in game one with Detroit CC senior Nolan Clenney and No. 2 ranked Brother Rice senior Matt Ruppenthal (Vanderbilt). Brother Rice would prevail with 7-0 victory. 

Brother Rice would break through in the third inning as senior Freddy Jehle  (Siena Heights) would reach on a single and senior Randy Righter (Bowling Green St.) would crush a hanging breaking for a home run giving Brother Rice a 2-0 lead. Brother Rice would score four more runs in the fourth inning on hits by Nick Plummer (Michigan), Jehle, and Righter. With a runner on in the sixth inning, junior Alex Malzone would hit a two-run home run making the score 7-0. Detroit CC was lead at the plate by senior A.J. Turek, who collected two single and a double.  

Ruppenthal received the win, going five innings, striking out eight, and allowing five hits. Clenney took the loss in five innings of work with six strikeouts while giving up eight hits.

Brother Rice would win game two 6-0 with Righter getting the win on the mound
