Michigan Insider: Fall Prospect Program - Week 1

We would like to thank all who participated in the Michigan Fall Prospect Program at Concordia College Ann Arbor. This was an opportunity for the class of 2017, 2018 and 2019 squads to be put on college radars.

Top Performers Team 1

  • RHP Andrew Oehmke (L’Anse Creuse North, 2018), started the game on the mound for Team 1 going 3 innings. A long projectable RHP showed good arm whip while opening slightly early commanding the outer half of the plate. Fastball sat 81-83 mph, 12/6 breaking off speed curve 67-69 mph and 70-72 mph change up. Oehmke struck out 5 batters.
  • RHP Kyle Jones (De La Salle, 2018) a 6-foot-2, 165 pound projectable arm worked at a rapid pace on the mound. Using a short arm motion the ball exploded out his hand. Jones struck out 7 of the 10 batters he faced.
  • RHP/1B Sean Millspaugh (Saline, 2017) was an offensive spark for team 1 using the entire field earning 3 hits on the day including a double and RBI. On the mound hides the ball well while delivering from a ¾ arm slot. Hides the ball extremely well, using sneaky get up on his pitches. Fastball 74-75 with dipping and cut action. 63-64 mph curve that kept batters guessing all day. Totaled 5 strikeouts in 2 innings of work.
  • 2B/OF Evan Czanarnecki (Saugatuck 2018) showed a calm approach at the plate and a smooth swing. Racked up 2 hits on the day including a double and 2 RBI.
  • OF/LHP Aaron Lewis (West Bloomfield, 2017) fits the mold of a classic leadoff hitter. Swinging from the left side has good poise and a understanding of the strike zone. In game one he drove a line drove into the right center power alley showing good wheels earning a triple. Later on the day smoked a line drive. In the field he has good range and an accurate throwing arm. While making a play in CF threw a baserunner attempting to advance out at 3B.  

Top Performers Team 2

  • SS/2B Noah Miller (Liggett, 2018) offered a strong all around day in the opening weekend of the Fall Program. He singled three consecutive times while showing great baseball instincts on the base path swiping several bags. In the field he showed above average defensive ability.
  • C/OF Jared Ryan (Fenton, 2019) a physically developed young prospect has a strong presence in the box. Behind the plate he excels defensively showing very good receiving and blocking skills.
  • OF/RHP Johnny Tikkanen displayed an aggressive swing at the plate smashing a 2RBI single. On the mound he has a quick arm throwing a heavy fastball with sink 80-82 mph along with a late breaking curve 69-71 mph.
  • LHP/1B Jon Killewald (Clarkston, 2017) is a 5-foot-9, 150 pound prospect. He worked efficiently on the mound. Fastball was 73-74 mph with sink, and 59-60 mph curve.

Top Performances Team 3

  • LHP/OF Jacob Genord (Notre Dame Prep, 2018) showed a clean delivery while pound the strike zone from the left side. Fastball sat 73-75 mph with arm-side run and a 12/6 curve 62-64 mph.
  • OF/RHP Brandon Cooper (Ann Arbor Huron, 2017) is a long athletic prospect. Has a great knack for getting a jump on the base paths. Reads pitchers well and has a quick first step
  • 1B Andrew Gilpin (Brighton, 2018) Gilpin is a heads up baseball player, displayed the ability to read a pitch going in the dirt to advance on the bases. Also drove an RBI triple into the gap prior to knotting the game up with his running abilities on the bases.
  • 2018 Ethan Hoffman (Bishop Foley, 2018) was quite impressive with his 3 inning outing on the mound. Hoffman only surrendered 2 hits while striking out 7 batters. Fastball sat 83-85 mph with great late run. Threw a sharp breaking72-74 mph curve that was used as his out-pitch, and a straight 75-76 mph change up.
  • RHP/OF Wisam Assaf (Flushing HS, 2020) had a strong outing the 20’ grad shows a loose are with good deception. Throws a moving fastball that resembles a 2 seamer 71-74 mph and a 11/5 big breaking 62-63 mph curve.
