Panther Classic Day 2 Results

Diamonds 16U vs. East Coast 18U


Both starters Diamonds RHP Bryce Davis (Sparta HS, 2017), and East Coast RHP Schroeder put up zero’s in the first.

In the top of the second Diamonds 16U score five runs on five hits, including back to back RBI triples by Logan Sharp (Greenville HS, 2017), and Tyler Visser (East Kentwood HS, 2017) to make it 5-0 Diamonds after two complete.

East Coast battles back in the third and forth to score three runs on a sac fly by Tremble, RBI single by Heythall, and a passed ball to make the score 5-3 after four complete.

In the sixth the game turns into a slugfest with Diamonds scoring four runs in the top of the sixth to take a 9-3 lead. 

East coast answered right back with six runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 9-9, and it would finish that way due to tournament time limit.

Diamonds 16U vs. Great Lake Canadians 18U


Canadians come out in the first to score five runs on an RBI single by Max Wright (2016), and a three RBI bases clearing triple by Matt Warkentin (2015) to make it 5-0 after one complete.

Diamonds scores two runs in the top of the second on a two RBI triple to right center by Drew Higgs (Hudsonville HS, 2017).

The Canadians respond in the bottom of the frame to score four more runs, making it 9-2 after two complete.

Diamonds score three in the top of the third on a passed ball, and a two RBI single to right off the bat of Tyler Visser (East Kentwood HS, 2017) to make the score 9-5 after three complete.

Diamonds score two more runs in the top of the fourth on a two RBI double that was crushed to straight away left field by Nate Roede (Byron Center HS, 2017) to make it 9-7 after four complete. 

Diamonds right fielder Brady Paganelli (Grandville HS, 2017) turns a great double play in bottom of the fifth making a diving play on a line drive, getting up and firing a strike to first to double off Canadians baserunner.

In the sixth, Diamonds catcher Nate Stephens (Lowell HS, 2017) throws 2.12 in the game.

Diamonds push one more run across in the seventh on a single by Nate Roede, but it proves to not be enough. Canadians RHP Austin Shields (2016) closes out the last two innings to give the Canadians a 9-8 victory.

Elite A’s vs. Diamonds 17U


The Elite A’s came ready to hit scoring eight runs on four hits in the bottom of the second inning. 

The rally was started by CJ Huntley (Mattawan HS, 2015) when he ripped a lead of double over the center fielders head. He was later driven in on a ground ball by Chris Clark (Kellogg CC Commit). Later in the inning, Nolan Bryant (Rockford HS, 2016) and Bryce Kelly (Rockford HS, 2016) both added RBI singles.

Once again in his second at bat of the inning Huntley drove another ball hard to right center field for a triple to score three more runs, giving the Elite A’s an 8-0 lead after two innings of play. 

Diamonds responds in the top of the third scoring four runs on an error, a wild, pitch and a two RBI double by Tommy Blitchok (Grandville HS, 2017) to bring the score to 8-4 after three.

Both teams add a run in the fourth, and flash some leather.

Nolan Bryant makes a great short play on a chopper up the middle to end the top of the inning, and Christian Falicki (Kenowa Hills HS, 2016) turns a double play when he makes a nice catch on a line drive and fires a strike to first base to double off the A’s.

The score would remain 9-5 for the rest of the game giving the Elite A’s the victory in six innings due to tournament time limit.

Elite 16U vs. Kalamazoo Maroons 18U


Elite came out in the top of the first inning scoring three runs on an errant throw and a great piece of hitting by Haydin Brandt (Portland HS). He was down 0-2 early in his at bat and battle all the way back to a full count, where he drove a breaking ball in to right field to drive in a run. 

The Maroons strike back in the bottom of the first scoring five runs on an error and two singles by Caleb Anspaugh (Schoolcraft HS, 2017) and Ricky Clark (Schoolcraft HS, 2017) to make the score 5-3 after one inning of play.

The Maroons add three more runs in the second on a wild pitch and a throwing error, to make the score 8-3 after two innings.

In the third Maroons short stop Wyatt Morrison (Portland CC) makes leaping catch on a line drive. Elite catcher Aaron Chycinski (Hudsonville HS) throws out Maroons baserunner at second to end the bottom of the third inning.

In the fifth Wyatt Morrison hits an inside the park home run to left center field scoring two runs to make the score 10-3 after five innings.

Maroons add one more run in the sixth to clinch an 11-3 win by tournament mercy ruling.
