Michigan Spotlight Game: Brighton vs Ann Arbor Pioneer

Michigan Spotlight Game: Brighton vs Ann Arbor Pioneer

Game 1

BRIGHTON- Brighton hosted Ann Arbor Pioneer in a Saturday afternoon double header and came away with a sweep, winning by scores of 9-1 and 14-4.

In the bottom of the first inning, 2017 Trevor Hopman started things off for Brighton with a solo homerun to left field. 2018 Andrew Gilpin made it 2-0 Brighton three batters later, hitting a RBI double that scored 2018 Rudy Ramirez.

Both teams were able to get on the board in the fifth. In the top half of the inning, Pioneer took advantage of a two out Brighton throwing error and cut the lead to 2-1.

Brighton answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. 2017 Austin Ford singled to left field and came around to score on a double by Hopman, who later scored on a two out fielding error by Pioneer.

Brighton broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth inning, plating five runs to take a 9-1 lead.

2017 Joe Salvato started things off with a double to left field and scored the first run of the inning on a single by Ford. Hopman followed by ripping a double to left field that scored two more. Ramirez added a RBI single and 2018 Cameron Tullar closed out the inning with a RBI sacrifice fly to center field.

Game 2

In game two, 2017 Jackson Hawkins put Pioneer up in the top of the first with a RBI single.

Brighton tied the game up in the bottom half of the fourth as 2017 Chad Rensi hit a double to left field that scored Gilpin.

Pioneer regained the lead in the top half of the fifth, scoring two runs on a Brighton throwing error. 2018 Eric Steinhauer hit a double in the inning.

Brighton’s offense exploded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring nine runs.

Hopman drove in a run with a single to left field and Ford scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3. Tullar hit a RBI single to right field that put Brighton up 4-3 and Gilpin made it 5-3 with a RBI double to right field. 2017 Kyle Hook drove in a run with a pinch hit RBI single and 2019 Jack Krause added another on a sacrifice fly. Ford capped the inning off with a three-run home run in his second at bat of the inning.

In the top of the sixth, 2017 Jordan Nwogu led off with an opposite field double to right field and came around to score on a passed ball.

Brighton finished the game off with 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth. Hook, Hopman and 2018 Gabe Clark all had RBI singles in the inning.
