Game Spotlight: Southfield Lathrup vs Pontiac

The highly anticipated matchup of Southfield Lathrup's Johnny Slater against Pontiac's Dazon Cole was sure to a be a good one.  Both players did not disappoint, despite Cole only coming on in relief.

Michigan commit Johnny Slater shined as he led his Chargers of Southfield Lathrup against the Phoenix of Pontiac. Slater started the game striking out three of the four batters in the first inning. His fastball sitting sat comfortably between 85-87mph.

Pontiac's starting pitcher pitcher Charles Bearden struggled with his command surrendering six free passes that resulted in four first inning runs.

Pontiac was able to hold the Chargers due to the arm of future Central Michigan Chippewa Dazon Cole. In his four innings of work Cole struck out seven batters with an overpowering fastball that reached 91 mph. But it was too little too late for Pontiac as the damage was done.

Lathrup added two insurance runs in the top of the 7th from errors. Featuring a tight side winding breaking ball and a fastball topping 89 mph Slater was unhittable racking up 13 k's in a 7 inning complete game no hit effort. 

In fact there were no hits in the entire game on either side. Southfield Lathrup took the contest with a final score of 6-0.
