PBR Spotlight Game: #3 Grosse Point University Liggett vs #4 Madison Heights Bishop Foley

#3 Grosse Point University Liggett battled #4 Madison Heights Bishop Foley in the pre-district state tournament qualifier. Foley won the 2013 Division 3 State Championship and Liggett won 2014 Division 3 State Championship.

2017 Justin Campbell took the mound for Foley, as 2016 Matthew Gushee hurled for Liggett.

2018 William Morrison led off the inning for Liggett with a single and scored on 2015 Harvard commit Nick Azar’s RBI single to right field.

Foley’s 2015 Western Michigan commit Nate Grys opened the top of the 4th inning with a blast to right field for a leadoff triple. Grys later scored on a pass ball.

Not to be outdone Liggett bounced back to score a run of their on in the bottom half of the 4th inning.

2018 Anthony George singled, stole second base and advanced to 3rd on a wild throw to second. George later scored on a grounder from 2016 Joseph Cipriano.

Liggett took advantage of late control issues from Campbell having George reach on a walk and Gushee hit by a pitch. Cipriano flared a ball to right for a single, setting up a great coaching move by Liggett Head Coach Daniel Cimini that caught everyone including the Foley defense off guard.

Coach Cimini had 2018 Noah Miller execute the perfect suicide squeeze taking a 3-1 lead that proved to be enough for the victory.

Liggett eliminated Foley from the State playoffs, they move on to play again Saturday.
