PBR Spotlight Game: #5 Saline vs Plymouth

SOUTHFIELD – #5 ranked Saline took on a very talented Plymouth High School Team. Top to bottom Saline may be the most talented team in the state featuring seven college baseball commits. Plymouth has two college commits of their own.

Plymouth’s unsigned senior Andrew Hejka led off the game with a base hit to right field, 2016 Peter Carravallah placed a beautiful bunt on the 3rd base line for a single. Saline attempted a back pick off at 1st base that landed in right field, scoring Hejka and advancing Carravallah to 3rd. Unsigned senior Patrick Downing blasted a sacrifice fly to right that allow Carravallah to score. Taking an early 2-0 lead.

Saline answered back with a run of their own in the top of the second with three straight singles from unsigned Senior Ryan Blake-Jones, Ball State commit Trent Theisen and Kentucky commit Josh Smith. 2017 Zach Schwartzenberger’s RBI single scored Blake-Jones making it a 2-1 game.

Saline scored again in the 3rd on 2016 Zachary Owings’ single and Theisen’s RBI sac-fly to right field scoring Owings.

Saline’s offense exploded for 4 runs in the top of the 4th. Unsigned Senior Brandon Baldus singled to open the inning followed by back-to-back walks to 2016 Richard Hovde and Schwartzenberger to load the bases.

Baldus scored on a passed ball, unsigned senior Joey Sweigart singled to bring in Hovde. Two additional walks scored Schwartzenberger and the final run of the inning was scored on a RBI sac fly from Theisen.

Saline scored its eighth and final run in the 6th. Blake-Jones singled, followed by Theisen’s rocket double down the 1st baseline. Smith scored Blake-Jones on a sacrifice fly to leftfield.
