PBR Spotlight Game: Dearborn Divine Child vs Novi Catholic Central

In a battle of traditional Catholic League powers Dearborn Divine Child split with Novi Catholic Central. Divine Child is led by 2015 Michigan State commit LHP Collin Goslin (injured) and Catholic Central has #15 in the 2016 class Grant Hartwig.

Game 1:

In the bottom of the 2nd unsigned senior Mike Scott of Catholic Central crushed a towering home run to leftfield taking the early 1-0 lead.

Catholic Central adding an additional run in the bottom of the 3rd. Unsigned senior Justin Green legged out an infield single and later stole second base. Unsigned senior Jordan Jenkins hit a missile up the middle scoring Green.

Divine Child fought back with two runs of their own in the 4th. Hillsdale Commit Jonathan Lapshan earned the leadoff walk, unsigned senior George Betz followed with a single. Lapshan stole 3rd base and was able to score on an errant throw to third. Betz scored on an RBI single by 2016 Shane Fugate knotting the game up 2-2.

In the bottom of the 6th Scott singled and stole 2nd base. He later scored on an infield error proving to be the winning run for Catholic Central.

Game 2:

2014 All State John Hopkins Commit Josh Hejka got it done offensively and on the mound. After dropping game 1 Hall of Fame coach Tony DeMare called on senior Hejka. Hejka did not disappoint, pitching a complete game shutout with nine strikeouts. Hejka didn’t allow a runner to reach scoring position until the 4th inning.

Divine Child all of their runs in the top of the 4th. 2016 Frankie Lucska led off the inning with a base on balls. Lapshan flipped a Seeing Eye single to shallow left field, Betz’s RBI single scored Lucska. Hejka hit a rocket up the middle scoring both Lapshan and Betz.

Divine Child defeated Catholic Central 3-0.
