Birmingham Groves season opener was spoiled by solid performances by the Walled Lake Northern pitching staff.

Pitcher's Blake Randall (2015 RHP), Zach Gilbert (uncommitted 2015 RHP) and Andrew Simon (2015 LHP, Northwood commit) combined to throw a two-hitter en route to a 12-2 victory.
The first two innings were dominated by both team's starting pitchers.

Kyle Sherman of Groves dueled Northern starter Blake Randall. Both carried no hitters through two innings.

Groves scored first in the 2nd inning due to Walled Lake Northern fielding errors.

Northern fought back with three runs of their own in the 3rd inning thanks to a two-run triple by Danny Gieselman (2015 infielder).

Kyle Stratton (2015 infielder) led the inning off with a walk for Groves, followed by two stolen bases. Stratton was later driven in by Shea Harms with a single to right field.

The Walled Lake Northern offense exploded in the 4th inning with eight additional runs, causing Groves to make two additional pitching changes.

Northern capped off the 10 run rule victory in the 5th inning as Justin Pawloski (2015) started the inning with a single and was brought in by a double from teammate Andrew Simon (2015).
