Max Bain, RHP, Clarkston HS, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Northwood?

Bain:  I chose Northwood because it is a small school with a great sports management curriculum. That being complemented with a great rising baseball program and Coach Bischel. The opportunity at Northwood was just too good to pass up.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Bain:  I was heavily considering Hope College and Rochester College.

PBR: Where did the coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Bain:  I first emailed Coach Bischel days after he was hired. He invited me to visit campus in the end of July. After my visit, I was then asked to come throw in an intrasquad scrimmage in the end of September. I threw 2 innings in the scrimmage and was offered directly after.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Bain:  The coaching staff sees me as a guy who can compete for innings as a freshman.

PBR: Northwood is extremely close to your home.  How much of a role did that play in your decision?

Bain:  Being close to home is going to be very nice. It’s far enough to where I can I can be independent but close enough to where I can go home for a weekend. I think location was a major factor in my decision. 

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Bain:  I play for the South Oakland A’s in the summer. My favorite experience was going to the State Semi-Finals with Clarkston and playing at Michigan State 

PBR: What were your stats for last spring season?

Bain:  44 Innings pitched, 4-3, 1.59 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 39 Strikeouts, 

PBR: Who is the toughest hitter that you have faced?

Bain:  The toughest hitters I have faced are Mitch Weber (Rochester HS, MI) and Jacob Depillo (Notre Dame Prep, MI).
