Recruiting Update: Three More Ranked Players Name Their Schools, Inlcuding the first from 2016

By Mike Penn
Michigan Director of Scouting

Three commitments in the past three days.  There must be something in the air.

First up Nick Hazergian (Canton HS, 2014) who committed to Saginaw Valley State. Hazergian is currently ranked No. 59 in the class of 2014 and will join Kyle Randick (Flushing HS, 2014) in the Cardinals class.  The 5-foot-11, 192-pound Hazergian is built very well.  Hazergian has the luxury of being lefthanded and his fastball sits between 82-84mph.  A ballplayer in every sense of the word, don't be surprised if he gets a shot to play both ways for SVSU.

Following Hazergian is Michael Mokma (Holland Christian HS, 2016) who committed to Michigan State.  Mokma is the first player to go off of the board in the class of 2016 and for good reason.  Mokma popped onto the scene last September where he flashed good stuff (80-84mph) and only got better as time has moved on. This summer he was up to 87mph with a vastly improved breaking ball.  The now 6-foot-5 right-hander doesn't seem to be done growing and nor does his velocity. Mokma should end up being a power arm with the ability to run it up there between 90-94mph with a power slider.  He is currently ranked No. 3 in Michigan and No. 18 overall in the updated Class of 2016 rankings.

Finally, last night Evan Kratt (Richmond HS, 2015) committed to Central Michigan.  Kratt is the first of the highly talented catchers in the Class of 2015 to come off the board.  Kratt has a prototypical pro frame with plenty more to grow. The 6-foot-3, 165-pound backstop possesses the best pure arm behind the plate in the Michigan class.  As he progresses Kratt could find his way to the top of some pro scouts lists provided he continues to fill out and the bat follows suit. Kratt is currently ranked No. 15 in the Class of 2012 and No. 120 overall.
