The Hotlist: 2016 Draft Prospects

No rest for the weary. The 2015 Draft is over and the focus for scouts immediately shifts to the 2016 class, which looks pretty good so far. The race at the top should be particularly interesting with RHP Riley Pint (St. Thomas Aquinas HS, KS), RHP Austin Bergner (Windermere Prep, FL) and LHP Jason Groome (IMG Academy, FL) all worthy of being the country’s top prospect. Pint is part of an exceptionally talented Kansas class, quite possibly the best in the state’s history. To whet your appetite for next year’s draft, we’re taking a look at some of the top prospects in Prep Baseball Report’s coverage area. They’re listed alphabetically below.

Austin Bergner, RHP, Windermere Prep, FL
Bergner is lean and projectable at 6-foot-4, 190 pounds. His fastball has already been up to 96 mph and he sits in the low 90s with plus offspeed stuff, most notably a sharp breaking ball in the high 70s. He’s athletic and repeats his delivery well. A member of Team USA’s 18U team last summer, he also plays shortstop where he moves well laterally. Bergner recently made a verbal commitment to North Carolina.
