PBR: Why did you choose Ellsworth CC?
SMITH: I chose Ellsworth because I felt that it was the right fit for me and I felt at home. I had been looking at JUCOs a lot because I'm a player that needs to get bigger and better. And I thought that the coaches at ECC would push me to get where I want and need to be.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?
SMITH: I was looking at quite a few schools, but the other two in my top three were Upper Iowa and DCTC.

PBR: Where did the coaching staff first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?
SMITH: The coaches first saw me at the Kernel's Foundation Perfect Game tournament in Cedar Rapids. Coach Akre and Coach Ali then got a hold of me a couple weeks later over the phone, then had me visit Ellsworth shortly after.

PBR: Do you feel relieved now that the process is over and you can just focus on baseball and not deal with everything that goes into picking a school?
SMITH: Yes, I am very relieved. It was something that I had been stressing over a lot, and I am thankful that I finally found the right school.

PBR: Was there one deciding factor that put your choice over the top?
SMITH: The deciding factor for me was just the atmosphere Ellsworth has. Coach Akre wants us to be the best we can be, and he will test us, whether it is playing Top 10 teams or early morning workouts. And that is who I am, I do not settle with being average.

PBR: Who has helped you the most to get to where you are today?
SMITH: A lot of people have helped me become the baseball player I am today. Chris Rodgers has coached me in every sport and has been my mentor through everything. My High School coaches who have always pushed me to do better. Brett Thorney who has been the best coach and resource a baseball player could ask for. Donald Blunt has also worked a lot with me and made me better. And most importantly my family who have always supported me.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it easy/difficult?
SMITH: Starting off with the process I thought it was going to be very simple, but it was not. It was very stressful but worth it in the long run.

PBR: What plans does the coaching staff have in store for you in your freshman season?
SMITH: The staff believes I can make an impact right away.

PBR: What is your most memorable baseball moment to date?
SMITH: Just growing up playing the game with some of my best friends.

PBR: Who is the best player that you have competed against?
SMITH: The best ball players I have competed against would be Thomas Krause, Hunter Koep, Reed Collins and Caleb Casey. They are all obviously very talented but they all hate to lose and I respect that about them.
