Prep Baseball Report Minnesota

The Prep Baseball Report MN Top Prospect Games event took place on Monday and Tuesday, June 19-20, 2017. The event was held at Veteran's Field at Minnetonka High School in Minnetonka, MN. The event featured prospects from the 2018 grad class; and included many breakout performances from this year's participants. Players showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and over 60 college coaches in attendance. 

There were a number of great individual performances this year at the MN Top Prospect Games.

Cameron Blazek, RHP/OF, Fargo North (ND), 2018
6-foot-2, 195-pound left-handed hitting 2-way player. Physical presence in box. 7.39 runner. Square stance, clean swing plane, has mid/pull approach, short to contact with solid pop in bat, 86 mph exit velocity. Solid/avg. athlete in field, appropriate routes and angles, avg. carry and accuracy to target, proto corner outfielder, 81 mph arm from outfield.

Zach Breeden, OF, Lakeville North, 2018
6-foot-4, 205-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Impressive physically with good athleticism. 6.77 runner. Crouched stance, leg kick trigger, line drive swing plane with lift through contact, shows pop in bat with gap to gap approach, 87 mph exit velocity. Avg. actions in field, tends to field on side, falls off on throws losing momentum and carry, 81 mph arm strength. 

Chester Dixon, OF, Edina, 2018
5-foot-9, 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 7.15 runner. Open stance with body load, preset hands, flashes occasional pop, pull side hitter, 81 mph exit velocity. Solid athlete in field, aggressive fielder with routes and angles, above avg. arm with carry and accuracy to target, 91 mph arm from outfield.

Charles Engdahl, OF, Wayzata, 2018
6-foot-5, 190-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 6.83 runner. Extra parts in load and stride, avg. timing to contact, flyball contact, pull approach, 78 mph exit velocity. Solid actions in field, covers ground and has good speed, stiff arm action, lacks carry and accuracy on throws, 76 mph arm from outfield.

Justin Firpo, OF, Apple Valley, 2018
6-foot, 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. One of better game performers during event. 6.9 runner. Shows above avg. power to left-center gap, some stiffness to swing, consistently barrels baseball, 91 mph exit velocity. Corner outfielder, has strength, looks to continue to add size, good athlete, 89 mph arm from outfield.

Will Goodin, OF, Andover, 2018
5-foot-5, 135-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. 6.66 runner. Active load with leg kick trigger, aggressive swinger, consistently squared baseball, ground ball and fly ball contact, gap to gap approach, 77 mph exit velocity. Tends to field with 2 hands losing balance and momentum, overall solid actions, throws have carry and accuracy, 83 mph arm from outfield.

Jerry Gooley, LHP/OF, Maple Grove, 2018
5-foot-10, 175-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.72 runner. Crouched stance with short stride, consistent solid contact, avg. pop in bat, mid/pull approach, 78 mph exit velocity. Solid routes and angles, throws have carry and are online, solid actions in outfield, 84 mph arm from outfield.

Parker Hafermann, OF/LHP, Prior Lake, 2018
5-foot-8, 170-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 7.15 runner. Active hands in load, produces solid bat speed, consistent hard contact, mid/pull approach, 92 mph exit velocity. Covers ground and aggressive fielder, quick release, has accuracy to target, solid overall actions in field, 83 mph arm from outfield.

Benjamin Hines, OF, Lakeville South, 2018
5-foot-11, 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Strong compact build. 6.95 runner. Hitchy hand load, changes eye levels to contact, leg kick trigger, has quick hands and flashes pop in bat, shows ability to use opposite field, 88 mph exit velocity. Plays fast in OF, slightly raw mechanics, quick release on throws with accuracy, 82 mph arm from outfield.

Barron Holtz, OF/RHP, PEM, 2018
6-foot-1, 168-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.88 runner. Shoulder load with low hand slot, spin tendencies with lower half, solid bat speed, pull approach with line drive and fly ball contact, 86 mph exit velocity. Above avg. athlete in field, works around and through baseball, has good actions, moves with ease. Throws are on-line with 93 mph arm from outfield with above avg. carry and accuracy.

Ben Ihrke, OF, Chatfield, 2018
5-foot-9, 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder. Strong compact build. 6.71 runner. Short load, leg kick trigger, minimal use of lower half, creates stiffness in swing, pull hitter with flyball contact, 90 mph exit velocity. Decent athlete with raw mechanics in field, stiff arm action, accurate to target, 74 mph arm from outfield.

Trey Kocher, OF/RHP, Apple Valley, 2018
6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. 6.77 runner. Square stance, straight legs in swing, roll-over contact, pull approach, 79 mph exit velocity. Quick twitch athlete in field, avg. routes and angles, solid arm, ¾ slot, tends to miss arm-side on throws, 85 mph arm from outfield.

Cole Kraemer, RHP/OF, Rosemount, 2018
6-foot-2, 180-pound right-handed hitting 2-way player. Has added quality weight and has begun to fill out frame. 7.06 runner. Body load with leg kick trigger, some extra moving parts through swing, flashes pop in bat, mid/pull approach, projects physically, 85 mph exit velocity. Brady Richter, RHP/OF, Holy Family, 2018
