Spotlight Game of the Day- eden prairie vs. bemidji

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn.—The Eden Prairie Eagles defeated Bemidji 4-0 in non-conference play on a chilly afternoon this Saturday.

The Eagles (ranked No. 16 in Class AAAA by the latest state polls) took advantage of seven hits and some good pitching by senior pitcher Trevor Divinski to beat the Lumberjacks (ranked No. 3 in Class AAA), who were playing almost four hours away from home.

Eden Prairie opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when senior Wesley Young hit a sacrifice fly to center field to plate one run.

Bemidji got back-to-back singles to put two men on base in the top of the second, but Divinski was able to escape the jam by inducing a couple of groundouts.

Senior outfielder Charlie Sheehan roped an RBI single to left field in the bottom of the third to give the Eagles a two-run cushion.

From the fourth to the sixth inning, pitching dominated. Bemidji pitcher George Loxtercamp set the side down in order in the fourth and fifth innings, while Divinski allowed just one baserunner during that same stretch.

The offense returned in the bottom of the sixth, when Eden Prairie outfielder Mark Ehresman knocked in two runs with a double to the gap in right-center. The Eagles got two hits and two walks in the frame.

Bemidji got a man on base in the seventh inning, but they ultimately failed to score.

Divinski pitched all seven innings for Eden Prairie and allowed just two hits while walking two and striking out three. Bemidji squared up a few balls off the righty, but more often than not they were hit right at a fielder.

Loxtercamp pitched six innings for the Lumberjacks and allowed four earned runs on seven hits and three walks. He struck out six in the loss.

No player managed more than one hit in the game. Ehresman and Kal Lunde both went 1-for-3 for the Eagles. Tony Geerdes and Matthew Morgan got the only hits for the Lumberjacks. Geerdes also drew two walks.

Eden Prairie moved to 4-5 this season with the win, while Bemidji fell to 5-4 with the loss. It was the third consecutive loss for the Lumberjacks.
