10.18 Underclass Games Analysis: Catchers

On Saturday, October 18 Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the Fall Underclass Games at the University of Missouri.  So far, we have broken down the pitcher, outfielders and infielders.  Today we will take look at the catchers.  Seven catchers took part in the event, with two being from the 2018 class.

Top 2017 Prospect
Nate Thompson, C, Park Hill, 2017
Thompson is a 5-foot-8 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher.  At the plate, 77 mph exit velo, athletic stance, slightly open, level path to extension, consistent line drives to middle of field during BP, pull power, finishes in stiff back leg, 4.78 home-to-first.  Behind the plate, 79 mph positional velo, 2.09-2.19 pop times, quick exchange, accurate throws.

Top 2018 Prospect
Jackson Caley, C, Pleasant Hill, 2018
Caley is an athletic 5-foot-9 143-pound right-handed hitting catcher. At the plate, 79 mph exit velo, balanced stance, some hand load, level bat path, aggressive bat speed, gap-to-gap approach, potential for pull power, 4.72 home-to-first. Pop times between 2.10 and 2.28, 70 mph positional velo, accurate throws, quick exchange.

Kyle Clark, C, Grain Valley, 2017
Clark is a 5-foot-9 173-pound left-handed hitting catcher.  Posted pop times between 2.10 and 2.31, 66 mph positional velo from the crouch, mostly accurate throws, soft hands.  At the plate has 76 mph exit velo, athletic stance, smooth load, line-drive approach to the middle of the field, 4.53 home-to-first.  

Zach Gibbs, C, Wentzville-Holt, 2017
Gibbs is an athletic 6-foot 180-pound catcher. At the plate, swing the with authority, 81 mph exit velo, smooth load, pull power, smooth load, level to extension, 4.71 home-to-first.  Defensively, 73 mph positional velo, pop times between 2.00 and 2.28, quick/clean exchange.

Drew Kirchoff, C, SLUHS, 2018
Kirchoff is a 5-foot-9 180-pound right-right handed hitting catcher. Offensively, fast bat speed, wide base in stance, minimal stride, loads hands, level path through extension, strong lower half, exit velo of 78 mph, gets down the line in 5.09-seconds. 66 mph positional velo, pop times between 2.25 and 2.38, clean exchange, accurate throws. 

J.P. Schneider, C, Rock Bridge, 2017
Schneider is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting catcher. At the plate, athletic stance, smooth load, no wasted movements, repeatable mechanics, level bat path to extension, line drive approach, 79 mph exit velo, 4.95 home-to-first. Behind the plate, 76 mph positional velo, quick feet and exchange, pop times between 1.97 and 2.16, mostly accurate throws. 

Wade Stauss, C, Lafayette, 2017
Stauss is a 5-foot-11 165-pound left-handed hitting catcher. At the plate, balanced stance, uses to touch for timing, line drive approach, mostly to pull side in BP, quick/level bat speed, 73 mph exit velo, 4.99 home-to-first.  Behind the plate, 70 mph positional velo, pop times between 2.10 and 2.25, mostly accurate throws, clean exchange.
