Class of 2017 Games: Middle Infielder Analysis

Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the Class of 2017 Games at Saint Louis University on June 7.  The event featured nearly 50 players from across the Show-Me State in the 2017 class. 

 Profiles have been updated with times, velos, profile pictures and videos.  We will break down the event positon-by-position, taking a look at the corner infielder performances today.  Although some middle infielders may have worked out in other positions, this is just a look at their performance at middle infield .  Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Middle Infielders

James Bradley Jr., 2B, Lafayette
Bradley is a 5-foot-10 160-pound right-handed hitting second-baseman from Lafayette HS in the St. Louis area.  He ran a 6.95 60 and a 4.59 home-to-first.  His exit velo was 85 mph.  At the plate, athletic stance, smooth load, short stride, simple and repeatable swing, level through the zone, mostly line drives to the middle of the field during batting practice.  On the infield, 70 mph positional velo, short three-quarters arm slot, quick feet with quick exchange, clean transfer, accurate throws, athletic all-around actions.

Riley Cain, 2B, 2B, South Pemiscot
Cain is a 5-foot-7 140-pound left-handed hitting second-baseman from South Pemiscot HS in Southeast Missouri.  He ran a 6.95 60 and a 4.71 home-to-first.  His exit velo was 76 mph.  At the plate, open stance, short in line stride, level path through the zone, stays on ball through contact, mostly line drives up the middle during batting practice.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, made all plays cleanly during defensive evals, soft hands, fluid footwork, fluid transfer and throw, short three-quarters arm slot, accurate throws. 

Tyler Eckman, 2B, Fort Zumwalt West
Eckman is a 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed hitting second-baseman from Fort Zumwalt West HS in the St. Louis area.  He ran a 7.27 60 and a 4.81 home-to-first.  He has an 86 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts with a thin stance, in line stride, level path to extension, showed some pop to pull side.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, three-quarters arm slot, long arm circle, fields bal in position ready to throw, quick release, fluid footwork, gains groud towards first base to throw, mostly accurate throws. 

Daulton Freeman, SS, Winnetonka
Freeman is a 6-foot-2 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop from Winnetonka HS in the Kansas City area.  He ran a 7.06 60 and a 4.53 home-to-first.  He has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, made solid contact during batting practice, middle to pull approach, athletic stance, leg lift to stride, singled to left and had a line drive single to center in game action. On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, over the top release, will drop arm slot, mostly accurate throws, made all plays cleanly during infield evaluations, clean transfer and release.

Lawson McAteer, SS, CBC
McAteer is a 6-foot-1 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in from Christian Brothers College in St. Louis.  He ran a 7.31 60 and a 4.93 home-to-first.  He has an 81 mph exit velo.  At the plate, balanced stance, controlled leg lift to stride, aggressive and quick bat speed, showed power to pull side, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, over the top arm slot, athletic footwork to the ball, momentum through the catch, clean glove to hand transfer, mostly accurate throws with carry. 

Jaxon Passino, SS, Rockwood Summit
Passino is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop from Rockwood Summit in St. Louis, committed to Kansas State.  He ran a 6.96 60 and a 4.39 home-to-first.  He has a 92 mph exit velo.  At the plate, no wasted movement in swing, repeats, solid consistent contact, used the whole field during batting practice, gap-to-gap approach, smooth rhythm, stays on ball after contact.  On the infield, 84 mph positional velo, athletic actions, quick catch and throw, feet in sync with hands, loose high three-quarters arm action, accurate throws with back spin carry.
