Prep Baseball Report Kansas/Missouri held the Kansas Preseason MOKAN Winter Open Showcase at Mac N Seitz Baseball Academy in Kansas City on February 17.  Nearly 80 players in the 2018 to 2020 classes from around the region attended. 

Player's profiles have been updated with profile pictures, videos and stats from the event. In the days to come, we will break down the showcase position-by-position, taking a look at the middle infielders today.  Although some middle infielders participated in other positions, this is just a break down of the middle infield performance. Players are listed in alphabetical order according to state.

Coaches will have new profiles to add their dashboard on ScoutPlus and players will be able to update information on their profile with ProspectPlus.

Missouri Middle Infielders

Cade Clemons, SS, Lee’s Summit West (MO), 2019
Clemons is a 6-foot-2 180-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.18 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, long levers, slightly open stance, in line stride, quick hands, middle approach, showed pull side power.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, short high three quarters release, feet work with hands, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws.

Jayton Cromer, SS, Lebanon (MO), 2019
Cromer is a 5-foot-11 164-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.40 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velo.  At the plate, athletic set up, short stride with minimal hand movement, early in line stride, hands control the bat, middle to pull side line drives during hitting evaluations, body stays under control. On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, short high three quarters arm action, feet play through the ball giving momentum after the catch, fields ball in athletic position, accurate thrower.

Jackson Dierenfeldt, SS, Staley (MO), 2018
Dierenfeldt is a 5-foot-10 145-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.28 home to first and has an 89 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up with smooth pre-swing rhythm, short stride, aggressive hands, gap-to-gap line drives during hitting evals, simple and efficient swing mechanics.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velo, over the top release, feet create momentum through and after the catch, clean exchange, in sync with actions, accurate throws with carry.

Coulton Doyle, SS, Hickman (MO), 2019
Doyle is a 5-foot-10 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.63 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts with open stance, minimal load, in line stride, works to the middle and pull side during hitting evals.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, three quarters arm slot, gains ground toward 1B after the catch, fluid footwork to the ball, quick exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Grant Geren, SS, Blue Springs South (MO), 2019
Geren is a 5-foot-9 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.22 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts slightly open, minimal load, level bat path, mostly opposite field line drives during batting practice, repeats swing.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velo, over the top release, fluid footwork to the ball, clean transfer, accurate throws.

Daniel Hammond, SS, Rockhurst (MO), 2019
Hammond is a 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.26 home to first and has an 85 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load with hand movement, in line stride, quick and aggressive with, loose hands, consistent solid contact during hitting evals, gap-to-gap.  On the infield, 80 mph positional velo, loose over the top arm slot, long arm circle, quick feet to the ball, momentum after the catch, quick transfer, mostly accurate throws. 

Payton Hanna, SS, Nixa (MO), 2018
Hannah is a 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.33 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts hands low with smooth pre-swing rhythm, short stride, attacks the ball with quick bat speed, hard middle to pull side contact during batting practice.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, athletic actions, field ball in athletic position with fluid footwork, momentum through the catch, short over the top release, clean catch and throw with advanced actions. 

Branden Harder, SS, Nevada (MO), 2018
Harder is a 5-foot-9 157-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.39 home to first and has an 87 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, controlled leg lift, in line stride, smooth rhythm, has feel for the barrel, consistently squared up ball gap to gap during hitting evaluations. On the infield, 79 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, arm works, transfer in sync with footwork, soft hands, gains ground to 1B after the catch, mostly accurate throws. 

Griffin Henry, SS, Lee’s Summit West (MO), 2020
Henry is a 6-foot-2 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.56 home to first and has an 87 mph exit velo. At the plate, slightly open stance, smooth load into back side, loose hand with quick bat speed, stays on ball after contact, consistent gap-to-gap line drives with pull side power potential.  On the infield, advanced actions with feet and hands, quick catch and throw, 80 mph positional velo, accurate thrower. 

John Herrman, SS, Blue Springs South (MO), 2019
Herrman is a 5-foot-9 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.35 home to first and has a 90 mph exit velo. At the plate, takes an aggressive swing, hands work inside the ball, middle to opposite field line drives, fluid pre-swing rhythm, short in line stride from balanced set up.  On the infield, 77 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick to the ball with feet, quick transfer with momentum through the catch, accurate throws with carry.

Jason Jakubec, 2B, Kearney (MO), 2019
Jakubec is a 5-foot-7 155-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.53 home to first and has a 75 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load, controlled front leg lift, level path through the zone, gap to gap approach.  On the infield, 69 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick exchange, aggressive to the ball with feet, gains ground after catch, somewhat accurate throws across the infield.

Grant Jones, SS, Joplin (MO), 2019
Grant Jones is a 5-foot-11 175-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.05 home to first and has an 86 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts slightly open, toe tap to stride, quick bat speed, hits with leverage from back side, pull side power potential, body stays under control with aggressive swing and loose hands, hard middle to pull side contact during batting practice.  On the infield, 77 mph positional velo, over the top release, aggressive to the ball, athletic actions, quick transfer and throw, mostly accurate throws, some flashing carry. 

Ben Kobel, SS, Lee’s Summit West (MO), 2019
Kobel is a 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.42 home to first and has an exit velo of 88 mph. At the plate, balanced stance, no wasted movement in load, short and compact swing, hard line drives in hitting evaluation gap-to-gap, repeats swing, flashing pull side pop.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot, arm works, made all plays cleanly with athletic actions in feet and hands, accurate throws.

Jason Kostelnick, SS, Lee’s Summit (MO), 2018
Kostelnick is a 5-foot-9 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.32 home to first and has an exit velo of 85 mph. At the plate, balanced stance, short stride, showed feel for the barrel, consistently squared up the ball gap-to-gap during hitting evaluations, mostly middle line drives.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velo, soft hands, feet work through the catch, quick transfer with momentum in feet, high three quarters release, mostly accurate throws with carry.

Joseph Mayer, 2B, Rockhurst (MO), 2018
Mayer is a 5-foot-7 150-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.53 home to first and has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, simple and repeatable movements, balanced set up, short stride, hands manage the bat, balanced lower half, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velo, attacks the ball, loose over the top release, feet and hands work together on exchange, plays with a high engine.

Blake Mozley, 2B, Ozark (MO), 2019
Mozley is a 5-foot-9 145-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  Mozley is committed to Missouri State.  He ran a 4.62 home to first and has a 77 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, loads against back leg, short stride, level path through the zone, feel for the barrel, consistent hard line drives to middle and pull gap during hitting evals.  On the infield, 78 mph positional velo, over the top release, active footwork creating momentum to throw, over the top release, loose arm action, quick exchange and throw, accurate throws. 

Davis Platt, SS, Staley (MO), 2018
Platt is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.39 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts slightly open, controlled leg lift with internal rotation, body stay under control, level bat path, gap-to-gap approach.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velo, smooth glove to hand transfer in sync with footwork, high three quarters release, quick catch and throw, accurate throws.

Tyler Pyle, SS, Richmond (MO), 2020
Pyle is a 5-foot-8 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.83 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts open, smooth load, high hands, hands creat bat whip through the zone, swing produced middle to opposite side line drives during hitting evaluations.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick to the ball with feet, fluid exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Teague Robertson, SS, Hickman (MO), 2020
Robertson is a slender 6-foot-1 147-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.66 home to first and has a 76 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance with smooth load to back side, toe tap to stride, body stays under control, middle of the cage contact during hitting evaluations.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velo, loose over the top release, long arm circle, footwork creates momentum through the catch, quick transfer, somewhat accurate throws, highly projectable frame that would suggest increases as he matures.

Brock Stewart, SS, Lee’s Summit West (MO), 2019
Stewart is a 5-foot-11 158-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.63 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts in balanced position, reverse toe tap to stride, swing produce line drives to middle and pull side of cage, showing occasional power to pull side.  On the infield, 72 mph positional velo, quick to the ball with quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws, gets to an athletic position to field the ball. 

Thomas Stone, 2B, Kickapoo (MO), 2018
Stone is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.46 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, simple and repeatable swing mechanics, many balls finding the barrel, balanced set up, short stride, level through the zone, gap to gap contact, repeats swing with bat whip and loose hands.  On the infield, 71 mph positional velo, over the top arm slot, momentum to throw after the catch, athletic footwork to the ball, clean exchange in time with footwork, accurate thrower.

Kyle Weber, SS, Marshall (MO), 2018
Weber is a projectable 6-foot 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.37 home to first and has a 91 mph exit velo. At the plate, solid consistent contact gap-to-gap during batting practice, starts balanced, internal hip rotation to load, controlled leg lift, accelerated hands, feel for the barrel, level path through the zone staying on ball after contact, repeats.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, loose three quarters release, easy and smooth actions, feet and hands work together, plays through the ball, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws.

Kansas Middle Infielders

William Hann, SS, Olathe North (KS), 2019
Hann is a 6-foot 183-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 5.08 home to first and has an 85 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, rhythm in hands, lifts leg to stride, level bat path through the zone, quick hands, middle to pull side contact.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, mostly accurate throws, clean transfer with quick feet to the ball.  

Chase Pearson, SS, Blue Valley Northwest (KS), 2019
Pearson is a 5-foot-7 140-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.58 home to first and has an exit velo of 80 mph. At the plate, open stance, gathers in back leg with leg lift, in line stride, hands work inside the ball, middle to opposite field approach, repeats swing.  On the infield, 74 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, gets to ball with quick footwork, fields ball in athletic position ready to throw, mostly accurate throws. 

Matthew Ronnebaum, SS, Blue Valley West (KS), 2019
Ronnebaum is a 6-foot-1 170-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 4.52 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts with open stance, stays slightly open in stance, no wasted movement in load, gap-to-gap approach, quick and loose hands managing the barrel, creates bat head whip.  On the infield, 76 mph positional velo, athletic actions, clean exchange, momentum with ball out of glove after the catch, loose over the top release, mostly accurate throws, some with backspin carry. 

Jackson Woolery, 2B, Olathe North (KS), 2019
Woolery is a 5-foot-8 124-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2019 class.  He ran a 5.47 home to first and has a 67 mph exit velo. At the plate, open stance, minimal movement in load, nothing wasted, hands manipulate bat head, middle to opposite field contact during hitting evaluations.  On the infield, 65 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, arm works, soft hands with clean exchange, aggressive to the ball, some momentum after the catch, plays with energy, mostly accurate throws.
