Prep Baseball Report Kansas/Missouri held the Kansas Preseason MOKAN Winter Open Showcase at Mac N Seitz Baseball Academy in Kansas City on February 17.  Nearly 80 players in the 2018 to 2020 classes from around the region attended. 

Player's profiles have been updated with profile pictures, videos and stats from the event. In the days to come, we will break down the showcase position-by-position, taking a look at the outfielders today.  Although some outfielders participated in other positions, this is just a break down of the outfield performance. Players are listed in alphabetical order according to state.

Coaches will have new profiles to add their dashboard on ScoutPlus and players will be able to update information on their profile with ProspectPlus.

Missouri Outfielders

Derek Abeln, OF, Hickman (MO), 2018
Abeln is a 5-foot-10 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.38 home to first and has an exit velo of 85 mph. At the plate, balanced stance, loads in lower half, minimal hand movement, level and quick path, mostly line drives to the middle of the cage in hitting evaluations, consistent hard contact.  In the outfield, 83 mph positional velo, loose over the top release, quick catch and throw, momentum through the catch, athletic actions.  

Sammy Cooper, OF, Lee’s Summit West (MO), 2020
Cooper is a strong and athletic 5-foot-11 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 4.47 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, gap to gap approach with flashes of pull side power, quick and level bat path, aggressive swing, starts slightly open with rhythm to in line stride, hard contact during hitting evals.  In the outfeld, over the top release, quick and athletic footwork to the ball, arm works, mostly accurate throws with fluid transfer, 79 mph positional velo.

Jackson Galloway, OF, Lee’s Summit West (MO), 2018
Galloway is a 6-foot 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.51 home to first and had an 87 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts slightly open, reverse toe tap, quick hands, swing produced mostly pull side to middle of the cage line drives during hitting evaluations.  In the outfield, 82 mph positional velo, loose over the top arm action, active feet playing through the ball, fluid glove to hand transfer, quick catch and throw.

Grant Geren, OF, Blue Springs South (MO), 2019 
Geren is a 5-foot-9 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.22 home to first and has an 81 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts slightly open, minimal load, level bat path, mostly opposite field line drives during batting practice, repeats swing.  In the outfield, short three quarters release, 76 mph positional velo, mostly accurate throws, clean exchange, works behind the ball.

Jake Grauberger, OF, Lee’s Summit West (MO), 2019
Grauberger is a 5-foot-10 180-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class. He ran a 4.33 home to first and had an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts slightly open with rhythm pre-swing, loose and aggressive hand, generates bat-head whip, flat through the zone, aggressive, solid contact to the middle and pull side of cage during hitting evaluations, power potential. In the outfield, 85 mph positional velo, athletic with quick twitch actions, attacks the ball with momentum, clean exchange with crow hop, over the top release, mostly accurate throws wih carry.

Payton Hannah, OF, Nixa (MO), 2018
Hannah is a 6-foot 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.33 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts hands low with smooth pre-swing rhythm, short stride, attacks the ball with quick bat speed, hard middle to pull side contact during batting practice.  In the outfield, 78 mph positional velo, quick over the top release, transfer is quick and clean, plays through the ball, athletic actions. 

John Herrman, OF, Blue Springs South (MO), 2019
Herrman is a 5-foot-9 160-pound switch-hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.35 home to first and has a 90 mph exit velo. At the plate, takes an aggressive swing, hands work inside the ball, middle to opposite field line drives, fluid pre-swing rhythm, short in line stride from balanced set up.  In the outfield, 80 mph positional velo, short over the top arm action, quick catch and throw, accurate throws.

Aaron Keast, OF, Staley (MO), 2018
Keast is a physical 6-foot 185-pound switch-hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.10 home to first and has an exit velo of 84 from the right side and an 82 mph exit velo from the left side. At the plate from the left side, open stance loaded in back leg, some rotation to load, level path with middle to pull contact, from the right side, more square set up, rocking motion to load, more gap-to-gap approach. In the outfield, 80 mph positional velo, short and loose over the top arm slot, small crow hop, accurate thrower, quick transfer, works behind the ball.

Logan Moran, OF, Liberty North (MO), 2018
Logan Moran is a 5-foot-8 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.46 home-to-first and has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts slightly open, reverse toe touch, in line stride, accelerated hands, middle of the cage line drives during hitting evals.  In the outfield, 73 mph positional velo, attacks the ball with quick feet, fluid glove to hand transfer, over the top release, mostly accurate throws.

Hunter Nyquist, OF, Blue Springs South (MO), 2018
Nyquist is a strong and compact 5-foot-9 212-pound left-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.63 home to first and has an exit velo of 94 mph. At the plate, starts slightly loaded in back leg, stays in back leg to swing, hits with leverage, level path, strong hands, mostly middle to pull side contact during batting practice, quick hands with power potential.  In the outfield, 76 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, quick to the ball with good route, loose arm action, momentum through the catch, mostly accurate throws. 

Bennett Patton, OF, Hickman (MO), 2018
Patton is a strong framed 6-foot-3 185-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class. He ran a 4.34 home to first and has an exit velo of 84 mph. At the plate, athletic set up, smooth rhythm in hands pre-swing, rocks back to load in lower half, swing produced mostly middle to opposite field line drives during batting practice.  In the outfield, 82 mph positional velo, loose over the top arm action, plays through the ball with fluid transfer and momentum in footwork, somewhat accurate throws.

Tyler Perry, OF, Lee’s Summit (MO), 2019
Perry is a 5-foot-11 180-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.46 home to first and has an 82 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, controlled load with leg lift and some hand load to separate, in line stride, body stays under control during swing, squared up ball late in round gap-to-gap.  In the outfield, 73 mph positional velo, high three quarters arm slot with long arm circle, clean transfer from glove, active feet to the ball.

Max Pitts, OF, Park Hill (MO), 2019
Pitts is a 6-foot-1 170-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.47 home to first and has an exit velo of 79 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, rhythm in hands, small and controlled leg lift, short in line stride, gap-to-gap approach, level swing plane.  In the outfield, 79 mph positional velo, crow hop, over the top release, plays through the ball, accurate thrower, clean arm action, quick catch and throw. 

Julian Rickman, OF, Park Hill (MO), 2019
Rickman is a 5-foot-9 150-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 4.64 home to first and has an exit velo of 73 mph. At the plate, open set up, double toe tap to stride, gap to gap approach, mostly oppo line drives during hitting evaluations.  In the outfield, 76 mph positional velo, high three quarters release, most momentum after the catch, clean exchange working in sync with fluid footwork, somewhat accurate throws.

Zac Salyers, OF, Kickapoo (MO), 2018
Salyers is a 5-foot-10 163-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.21 home to first and has an exit velo of 84 mph. At the plate, balanced set up with pre-swing rhythm in hands and lower half, short in line stride, some hand load, middle to pull side line drives, aggressive swing, quick bat.  In the outfield, high three quarters, plays through the ball, fluid footwork in sycn with clean exchange, somewhat accurate throws, some flashing carry, 77 mph positional velo.

Thomas Stone, OF, Kickapoo (MO), 2018
Stone is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.46 home to first and has an 84 mph exit velo. At the plate, simple and repeatable swing mechanics, many balls finding the barrel, balanced set up, short stride, level through the zone, gap to gap contact, repeats swing with bat whip and loose hands.  In the outfield, 73 mph positional velo, loose over the top arm action, mostly accurate throws, some flashing backspin carry, clean exchange with active feet. 

Vincent Tinoco, OF, Winnetonka (MO), 2018
Tinocco is a 5-foot-10 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Missouri’s 2018 class.  He ran a 4.07 home to first and has a 70 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts in a thin and open stance, attacks ball with in line stride, minimal load, gap to gap line drives, flashed pull side power, feel for the barrel, repeats swing.  In the outfield, 75 mph positional velo, over the top release, plays through the ball, fluid catch and throw, works behind the ball with active feet, somewhat accurate throws. 

Kansas Outfielders 

Braedyn Brewer, OF, Blue Valley (KS), 2018
Brewer is a 6-foot-2 165-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 4.15 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, athletic set up, controlled leg lift with some hand movement to lead, in line stride, gap-to-gap approached, loose hands.  In the outfield, 78 mph positional velo, over the top release, fluid footwork working through the catch, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws. 

Blake Herbel, OF, Shawnee Mission East (KS), 2018
Herbel is a 5-foot-10 175-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2018 class.  He ran a 4.57 home to first and has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth load, in line stride, gap-to-gap approach, repeats swing.  In the outfield, 81 mph positional velo, over the top release, reads ball well off the bat, plays through the catch, fluid exchange, small crow hop, mostly accurate throws.
