Mid-Eastern Missouri Open: Catchers Analysis

On July 18, Prep Baseball Report-Missouri held the Mid-Eastern Missouri Open Showcase at Ronsick Field in Washington, Missouri.  Over 30 players on the 2021-2018 classes attended. 

We will break down the event position-by-position, taking a look at the catchers today.  Player profiles have been updated with video, running times, throwing velocities and profile picture.  Players are listed in alphabetical order.

Player's profiles have been updated with profile pictures, videos and stats from the event. Coaches will have new profiles to add their dashboard on ScoutPlus and players will be able to update information on their profile with ProspectPlus.

Catchers

Cole Christman C / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2019

Christman is an athletic 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.07 60 and a 4.89 home to first.  He has an 83 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts with a wide stance, short stride, quick hands, level path through the zone, simple and repeatable, solid consistent contact to the middle and pull side of the field.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.01 and 2.13, 75 mph positional velo, quick actions, high three quarters arm slot, staggered set up in feet, quick catch and throw, mostly accurate throws with carry to the bag.

Charlie Schark C / Homeschool, MO / 2019

Schark is a strong bodied 5-foot-11 190-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 8.01 60 and a 5.21 home to first.  He has an 80 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced set up, smooth load to back side, body stays under control, swing produced pull and middle of the field line drives, high finish in hands.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.28 and 2.44-seconds, 70 mph positional velo, sits low with flexibility, clean exchange with fluid footwork, over the top release, throws with momentum, mostly accurate throws with carry.

Andy Stochl C / Rockwood Summit, MO / 2019

Stochl is a 5-foot-9 160-pound left-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.70 60 and a 5.20 home to first.  He has a 76 mph exit velo. At the plate, balanced and slightly open stance, smooth load minimal hand movement, in line stride, mostly line drives to pull side during batting practice.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.23 and 2.45-seconds, 71 mph positional velo, over the top release, clean transfer on time with fluid footwork, moves well to block, mostly accurate throws.

Drew Sutton C / Holt , MO / 2020

Sutton is a 5-foot-10 145-pound right-handed hitting catcher in Missouri’s 2019 class.  He ran a 7.85 60 and a 4.70 home to first.  He has a 69 mph exit velo. At the plate, starts slightly open, short in line stride, minimal hand load, smooth pre-swing rhythm, level path through the zone, swing produced middle to opposite field contact during batting practice.  Behind the plate, pop times between 2.34 and 2.48-seconds, 69 mph positional velo, high three quarter release, wide and slightly staggered feet in set up, clean transfer, fluid footwork, mostly accurate throws to the bag.
