Missouri Insider: A Look at Potential Candidates for 2016 Super 60

Before we take a look at the list of players in the 2016 class that could make up next year's Super 60, let's take a look back at the 2015 class.

Once a again, the Missouri contingent had another great showing at PBR's biggest event. The Show-Me State had seven representatives at the event.  The pitchers were the highlight of the event, with Matt Vierling (CBC) leading the way.  Vierling was nothing less than impressive firing 92-93 mph fastball with arm-side life. He threw a tight slider at 78-81 mph and an aggressive change up.  Lefties Jake Lochner (Sullivan) and Jacob Schlesener (Logan-Rogersville) threw back-to-back and were equally impressive. Schlesener touched 92 mph, while Lochner registered a 93 mph on his last pitch.  RHP Luke Matheny (Westminster) showed a full arsenal of pitches with a max fastball at 88, and feel for his curveball and change-up, all down in the zone.

On the defensive side, Vierling showed again why he is the top player in the state.  He had an event-best 94 mph throw from the outfield, with 6.73 60 time.  Offensively, he showed a balanced and rhythmic swing with bat speed and burgeoning power potential. Jeremy Eierman (Warsaw) had a great day as well, running a 6.68 60 and posting the event's best infield velo at 90 mph.  The Missouri recruit had an excellent round of batting practice, squaring up balls on a consistent basis with an exit velo of 94 mph.  Marquis Doherty (Winnetonka) was as advertised, one of the top athletes in the event.  Doherty ran a 6.74 60 with an 84 mph velo from the outfield and an 88 mph exit velo. Brian Sharp (Liberty North) was among the top in catcher POP times, ranging from 1.87 to 2.01.  Sharp also showed quick feet and soft hands at third-base with a positional velo of 81 mph.

As we close the book on the 2015 Super 60, we can now look at what 2016 will bring.
