Matthew VierlingOF/RHP Matt Vierling (CBC HS), the No. 1-ranked 2015 prospect in Missouri, has verbally committed to Notre Dame. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound Vierling is one of the top two-way prospects in the Midwest and is ranked No. 9 overall in the Prep Baseball Report 10-state coverage area.

Over the last two months, Vierling has proved to be a high-level two-way prospect. He was a clear standout at the Midwest Future Games in August, when he showed off his arm strength (91 mph) from the outfield and potential at the plate.

Then at the PBR Labor Day Challenge, Vierling earned Most Valuable Player honors after going 9-for-13 with two doubles, a triple, six RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases. He also pitched and earned a win on the mound, striking out six in six innings behind an 85-87 mph fastball.

In the spring, Vierling helped lead CBC to its first Class 5 championship game appearance since 2010 when he launched two homers, hurled six innings and to beat Willard, 5-2.

Vierling marks the second top 10 overall 2015 prospect Notre Dame has landed, joining No. 2-ranked RHP Ashe Russell (Cathedral HS). Vierling is the second member of Team Missouri from the Midwest Future Games to verbally commit, joining INF Ian Nelson (Missouri).
