Player Spotlight: 3B/OF Sam Swartz (East Newton, 2015)

Sam Swartz is a 6-foot 185-pound right-handed hitting 3B/OF.  He has an infield velo of 80 and an outfield velo of 82.  Swartz plays through the ball, with a high three-quarters release and makes mostly accurate throws.  He has fluid footwoork with a quick transfer and long arm swing.  Swartz attacks the ball in the outfield throwing with good momentum to his target.  He is a bit more-over-the-top with his release in the outfield and accurate with this throws.  He has quick release with fluid footwork.  At the plate, Swartz uses a middle-oppo approach with fast bat speed.  He starts in an athletic position and has a smooth load with a short stride.  He lands square on his front foot and produces a level path to square up pitches during batting practice.  Swartz has been clocked at 6.8 on his 60. 

Currently, Swartz is uncommitted and planning a career in Business Administration.  Below is a look inside the recruiting process for Sam Swartz. 

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Swartz: I am looking for a school that offers a Business Administration degree.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Swartz: My high school team finished second in the Big 8 Conference and even though we got beat out in the first game of districts, we broke our school record, with (14) wins.  I hit .472 with three home runs,  seven triples, six doubles, 16 singles, eight walks, 25 runs, 28 RBIs, and 17 stolen bases in 22 games (69 at bats).

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season? Name some players that will play a key role for East Newton in 2015.

Swartz: My goal for my senior year is to win districts, because it has never been done in the history of the school.  Other key players for us this year will be Brandon Jordan and Jake Patterson.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?
 
Swartz: I played summer and fall ball with the Arkansas Yardawgs from Springdale, 

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Swartz: I played basketball the past three years, but decided to dedicate my time to baseball my senior year.

What are your ACT and GPA?

Swartz: My ACT is 21 and My GPA is a 4.0
