Player Spotlight: C Cole Bornhop (Lutheran South, 2015)

Cole Bornhop (Lutheran South, 2015) an athletic 5-foot-10, 175-pound switch hitting catcher/utility player. He posted a home-to-first time of 4.30 from the left side and 4.51 from the right side. Cole throws from a high ¾ arm slot and has short arm action and his throws were accurate. His position velo was 74 MPH from the crouch, with a POP range of 1.96-2.06. At the plate, Bornhop has an athletic, balanced setup with a smooth load and long stride. He explodes with his lower half and keeps a level bat path. Cole produces gap-to-gap line drives and has power from both sides. He had an exit velo of 85 MPH from the left side and 88 MPH from the right side. During the game, he reached base on an infield single and threw out a runner.

Bornhop earned All-State honors last season at Lutheran South.  He hit .442 on the year. with a .555 on base percentage.  He drove in 18 runs, smashed 11 doubles and had a slugging percentage of .600.  Currently, the uncommitted senior is working through the recruiting process.  Here is a look at what Bornhop has going on. 

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Bornhop: The schools that have showed interest are Meramec College, Missouri State, Evansville, Jefferson College, and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?

Bornhop: I currently have not had or planned on any visits.

PBR: 3. Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Bornhop: I am looking for a school with a good business program (Sports Management), physical therapy is also an interest.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Bornhop: W lost to Westminster Christian Academy in Sectionals 6-5. I hit .442 on the year. On base percentage was .555. Slugging was .600. Had 95 at bats. Had 13 runs scored, 42 hits, 29 singles, 11 doubles, 2 triples, and 18 RBI's. Struck out 16 times, walked 15 times, 4 stolen bases, 800 stolen base percentage. And 1 sacrifice.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Bornhop: To better myself in preseason in the weight room and the cage. During season, I want to go to state and win it this year; beat Westminster. 

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Bornhop: I play for the St. Louis Naturals. And I will probably guest play for a couple teams this fall, just friends teams.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Bornhop: No, I do not.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Bornhop: I have a 3.0 GPA, and received a 19 on my ACT. I plan on taking it more or two more times.
