Player Spotlight: OF Justin Dirden (Ft. Zumwalt North, 2015)

OF Justin Dirden (Fort Zumwalt South, 2015) led Fort Zumwalt North with a .391 batting average and a 16-12 record.  He is 6-foot-2, 175-pounds and was recently clocked at a 6.6 with his 60 time.  He has a velo of 89 MPH from the outfield and has an exit velocity of 85.  Dirden was a member of Team Missouri at PBR's Midwest Futures Games last season and putting together a good summer with the Rawlings Prospects out of St. Louis. 

In the outfield, Dirden shows good body control and lateral movements to the ball. His arm action is clean and he showed ability to keep his momentum toward his target. Offensively, Dirden has quick hands at the plate and a long, level swing, showing ability to hit the gaps and to the opposite field.

Dirden spoke with us about what is happening in his recruiting process.

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Dirden: University of Ohio, SIUE, Xavier and Bradley

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?

Dirden: University of Ohio

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Dirden: Academically, I am looking to pursue classes in Bio-Chem.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

I batted. 391 with a .466 on-base percentage.  I had two home runs, three doubles, three triples and 13 RBI.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season?

Dirden: I want to play at my highest level; increase my GPA and find a college that will provide a quality education and has a need for a talented player to help the go to the CWS.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Dirden:  I play for the St. Louis Prospects during the summer, and I have not decided on a fall team.  I am currently enrolled in AP classes, and will have a factor in the fall baseball season. 

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Dirden: I do not.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Dirden: I have taken the ACT only once and received a 19.  I have a 3.33 GPA.
