Player Spotlight: OF/C William Roberts (Sturgeon, 2015)

William Roberts (Sturgeon, 2015) is an athletic 5-foot11, 152-pound right-hand hitting outfielder. He ran a 60 at 7.09 and home-to-first 4.62 at the Mid-Missouri Prosprct ID in June. Roberts throws from an over-the-top arm slot, with a 77 mph velo, hit throws were accurate with good carry. Roberts displayed quick fluid feet and a quick,clean exchange. At the plate, Roberts has an athletic setup with a smooth load. He shows fluid rhythm and a level bat path. William produces gap-to-gap line drives with his swing. He had an exit velo of 81 MPH.

Last season, Roberts hit .380 with a home run, leading Sturgeon to a district championship in Missouri Class 1. In 2015, Sturgeon looks to a big factor in the state run for the Bulldogs.  During the summer, Roberts plays for the Central Missouri Prospects.

Below is a look into Roberts recruiting process.

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Central Methodist University, Missouri Valley, North Central Missouri College

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?

Roberts: Longview, October. Missouri Valley, January 5th. Central Methodist, January 10th.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Roberts: I want a well known and accredited education program, I would like to become a High School history teacher and I would like a school that would allow me to excel in that area. 

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Roberts: I was second on the team in average with .380, one home run, My team won districts but fell short in sectionals. I finished with Second Team All-State Honors

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season? Name some players that will play a key role for Sturgeon in 2015.

Roberts: My main goal is to bat above .500, lead the team in doubles and stolen bases. Key players for the year will be Tanner Sandker, Ryan Seidel, Brayden Kelly, Hunter Smith, Jesse Roberts, and myself.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Roberts: I play with the Central Missouri Prospects, I play fall baseball through the high school since we have no football team.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Roberts: I also play basketball, and run track.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Roberts: I have a 21 on the ACT with a 3.4 GPA
