Shon Plack
Missouri Scouting Director

RHP Dalton Erger (Seckman, 2015) is excelling on the baseball field and in the classroom.  Erger sports a 31 ACT and carries a 4.52 GPA.  He is planning on studying biology in college. Last season, Erger was used as the closer for Seckman.  He had a 4.7 ERA in in 7.3 innings.  Secman finished in 16-14, with a season ending loss 1-0 to Poplar Bluff in the district championship.

At the Class of 2015 Prospect Games, Erger showed quick arm speed and loose arm action. Although he throws across his body a bit, he throws with easy effort and keeps his shoulders level. Erger had a fastball velocity range of 82-86 MPH with good down angle. His curveball was at 71-74 MPH with 11/5 tilt and late action. Dalton also had command of a change-up that ranged from 75-78 MPH with near fastball arm speed. He worked a quick inning and was a strike pumper during game action.

Currently, Erger is planning baseball at the next level.  Here is a look at what he has going on.

PBR: What schools have expressed interest in you?

Erger: A few schools that have expressed interest in me are Missouri S&T, Drury University, and Maryville University along with a few junior colleges and NAIA schools.

PBR: Have you taken any visits, or have any visits scheduled in the near future? If so, what schools, and how recently?

Erger: I have taken academic visits to the University of Chicago, Purdue University, and the University of Illinois and I went on an athletic visit to Missouri S&T in early September.

PBR: Are you looking for anything in particular in a school? (Example: high academics, certain academic program, local, etc.)

Erger: First and foremost, I look for a quality academic program in a school, particularly a good Biology program, which is my planned major. Location is not necessarily a main factor, though schools in the Midwest are preferred.

PBR: How did you do your junior year? What were your high school statistics? And how did your team do?

Erger: Junior year I was the closer at Seckman and had an ERA of 4.5 and led all relievers with 7 1/3 innings. The lack of innings for relievers was due to very good starting pitching over the entire season. Overall, we had a fairly good season. We were the District Runner-Ups and were the Suburban South Conference Tournament Champions. We competed in every game we played.

PBR: What are you goals for your senior season at Seckman?  Name some players that will play a key role for Seckman in 2015.

Erger: My goals for my senior season at Seckman are to win Sectionals and to win 20 or more games as a team. Personally, I want to throw a complete game and win every game that I start. While everyone on the team will play a key role, other senior leaders are Alex Hanft and Colton Anderson along with a few others.

PBR: What travel team do you play for? Are you playing fall ball with a team?

Erger:  I play summer ball and fall ball with the St. Louis Naturals.

PBR: Do you play any other sports?

Erger: I do not play any other organized sports.

PBR: What are your ACT and GPA?

Erger: I currently have a 31 on the ACT, but I took the September test and plan to take the October test if I my score does not rise and I have a 4.52 GPA.
