Preseason Preview: CBC

The 2013 CBC Cadets team has a lot to look forward to in 2013. They will play on a new field, appropriately named Cadet Park, as well as return seven hitters to what should be a strong line up and have one of the best one-two punches on the mound. This CBC team mirrors the 2010 and 2011 state championship teams in many ways as an early favorite to pick up a Class 5 state championship. We have CBC ranked as the No. 2 team in the PBR Preseason poll.

Offensively, the CBC line up should put some runs on the board. 1B Justin Paulsen led the Cadets in hitting last year, posting a .403 average with 15 RBIs and will retuen to the middle of the line up. On the other corner of the infield, 3B Jake Burger looks to build on his successful season after hitting .367 with 12 RBIs. MIF Mike Venturella should once again find himself at shortstop and be a fixture at the top the CBC line up after hitting .310 last year with 17 runs scored and a team leading eight stolen bases.  Senior catcher Joe Schrimpf leads the way behind the plate, and has been a consistent contributor the past two years, and no reason why he shouldn't continue that trend. Schrimpf hit .313 last season, and is a guy who consistently puts the ball in play. Sophomore Matt Vierling will see a majority of his time in the outfield, but could see some time in the middle infield as well as on the mound. Vierling got his feet wet as a freshman on varsity last season, with a .284 batting average and 12 RBIs. There doesn’t look to be a weak spot in this talented line up.

On the mound, CBC has two aces of the staff, RHPs Dan Herrmann and Robert Plohr, both have 90+ mph arms as well as above average off speed pitches. If Herrmann and Plohr are on, they will be tough to beat.

This team has the veteran leadership that few teams in Missouri possess. Coach Mason Horne and his staff will have CBC ready to meet every challenge they face this season, and should be an exciting team to watch.
