RHP Conner Davis has recently committed to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska  Last spring, Davis helped the Blue Spring South Jaguars to a third place finish in the Missouri Class 5 State Championship.  On the mound, he finished with a 1.27 ERA in 22 innings pitched.  He struck-out 21 hitters to only 5 walks.  At the Kansas City Open ID in February, Davis Davis showed good command for three pitches from different release points, mostly from a low, slinging ¾ arm slot.  All of his pitches had good movement, including his running fastball clocked 80-83 MPH.  He has a 10/6 slurve-type curveball with late break thrown at 73-77 MPH.  Davis’ change-up was at 71-78 MPH with a little fade.  He has good rhythm as he gets down the mound and throws with easy effort.

Davis talks with PBR about how he became a Blue Jay.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process? Was it as expected? Easy/Difficult?

Davis:  The recruiting process went very similar to what I expected it to be. The coaches at Mac-N-Seitz baseball academy had given me some great advice and helped me with any questions I had. I also have a sister who had gone through the  recruiting process with softball, so I think it went well.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?

Davis: Yes, I wanted to be a student athlete somewhere close to my family. My family has given me so much support, it was important to me to be close in distance so they could come out and watch games.

PBR: Where did the college you chose first see you? How did your relationship develop with them?

Davis:  I believe Creighton had first seen me at a Perfect Game Showcase. They then invited me to attend a recruiting camp at the University where I had an opportunity to build a relationship with the coaching staff. After that I was invited for a visit.

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were an elite player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?

Davis: I started playing competitive baseball when I was 12. Ever since, playing college baseball had always been my goal. I started taking baseball really seriously once high school started.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?

Davis:  I was looking for a baseball program that loves to compete everyday and has a good reputation. Having the opportunity to play at the college level for a great coaching staff is something I am really looking forward to.

PBR: What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?

Davis:  During the offseason, I am involved in a speed and strength program at Mac-N-Seitz with trainer Rob Jackson. I also practice with my teammates to prepare for the upcoming season.  I have taken pitching lessons from Justin Munson and I am very thankful to all who have helped me to play at the College level.

PBR: Obviously, the state tournament was a great experience, other than that what is the most memorable moment in your baseball career to this point?

Davis:  I have so many special memories with Mac-N-Seitz I cannot narrow it down to one moment. They have been my baseball family for a long time, and I hope the relationships I have made with my Mac-N-Seitz family will never go away.

PBR: What do you like most about the college you committed to and what were the key factors in making your decision?

Davis: I have visited Creighton a few times over this past year and I like everything about my commitment. Omaha is a nice city and they have great facilities. I felt very comfortable being on campus and around the coaching staff, which were key factors in my commitment.

PBR: Preview your high school season for us. Blue Springs South lost a lot of players due to graduation.  Name some players that will step in and fill key roles and what are the expectations for the 2015 season.

Davis:  We have lost many great players at Blue Springs South, but I expect us to be just as competitive this upcoming year. We have some experienced guys and underclassmen that are ready to compete. Coach Baier and his coaching staff do a great job preparing us to be competitive and I am very excited to get things rolling again.

PBR: Where do you play in the summer? And do you play with them in fall?

Davis: For the last 6 years I have been playing summer ball with coach Felix through Mac N Seitz, this final year of summer baseball  I will be playing for Mac-N-Seitz Indians Foster.
